multible ext. ip's and e-mail domains - how to setup smtp for using a dedicated virt. smtp server depending on domain suffix
Hi all together,I 've googled and tried a lot, but did not find anything solving my problem.here what I have:ex2003 on w2k3 SP2 (all SP's and patches)two differnet domains (abc.com and 123.com) and registert to different ip's at ISP's DNS.So let's say abc.com is registered to x.x.x.82 and 123.com to x.x.x.83my exchange server has to lan Adapters with y.y.y.202 and y.y.y.212 as their ip's.I created 2 virt. SMTP servers and configured them using one y.y.y.202 and the other y.y.y.212then I went on and created to IMC's each using one of the virt. SMTP Serversfuther I set the regestry key for userrestrictions on IMC and created 2 universal e-mail enabeld groups for abc.com and123.com which are not allowed to send mail through each other IMC.but i can't reach my goal: - members of abc.com send their mail through virt.smtp server y.y.y.202- members of 123.com send their mail throuhg virt.smtp server y.y.y.212Besides: incomming it works fine: -telnet form external IP to abc.com opens a session on the y.y.y.202 virt. SMTP server -telnet form external IP to 123.com opens a session on the y.y.y.212 virt. SMTP serverPlease help with any ideas (exept mail forwarding to ISP mailexchanger)Thank's a lot.

Hi Tom, Exchange 2003 doesnt have IMC, you mean SMTP connector here right? Please make sure you have set the registry value properly and restart the related services. Those links Elvis provided are ones I've used a couple of times, the main thing is remembering to restart the services, one time I had to restart the whole server for it to take affect, if everything checks out from the links provided by Elvis and its giving you problems bounce the server as a worst case scenario, if restarting all the service don't help.

Hi Elvis, thanks for your reply. I allready found those links and applied them.for the first link every thing is clear. regedit, find service and add parameter (did with copy / paste)for the second link I created to Mail enabled universal groups one called MAabc the second called MA123.then added those groups one for each smtp connector, and restarted first the related services MTA / Routing / Simple Mail; finally the whole mashine.but it does not work. Then I did some tests and stopped the virtual SMTP with the ip x.x.x.212 but still mails were sent with this ip.(watched the log of a ZyWall 70 UTM)any more ideas ?Thanks, tom

Hi Hachi, sorry my english is not so good so I did not understand what "bounce the server" means. Thanks for your reply. tom

Sorry little slang bounce = reboot Not sure where I picked that up from, a lot of times I read over and edit when I type any personal acronyms that I use and change them to the technical term, kind of like paste PowerShell scripts on the net, I try to use the full cmdlet rather than the alias for those who are new and still learning. As for your issue, you've seem to have it configured right per the support articles and your configuration. Under your SMTP virtual server verify that it is set to the IP address and not all unassigned, also check the advanced tab there are some filters to appley such as sender and connection. I'd have to look them up and double check what each one does cant remember off the top of my head, but double check those I think that might be the answer to your problem or one more thing to elimanate if it isnt. let me know if that helps, Ill google/bing if I get some time as well.

I think this might help you http://www.computerperformance.co.uk/exchange2003/exchange2003_global_settings.htm

Hi, Hachithanks for the "english lesson" next time I'll know. ;-)So my virtual Smtp Servers are bound to a single ip and port 25 the first y.y.y.202 for abc.com the second y.y.y.212 for 123.com the settings concerning filters meets only incomeing conditions as far as I understood. The only option to deny anything is through user rights, but this results only in not sending a mail and not forwarding it toadiffernet connector (ip).the link you mentioned http://www.computerperformance.co.uk/exchange2003/exchange2003_global_settings.htm I had found allready too, but it's to global.I'm surprised that nobody seems to have the same or a similar problemthan me.A question besides would this work too if you have only one NIC with two IP's assignd ? What's your opinion ?I thought it should. But I was not sure so I installed a second NIC.At last the zyWall hastwo 1-1 rule that say: every y.y.y.202 goes trough x.x.x.83 and second every y.y.y.212 goes through x.x.x.82

Lets try some basic troubleshooting to see if we can narrow down what it might be.Have you tried putting an indiviual user rather than the Universal group and see if it works? Then we can eliminate the group being the issue, even thought i doubt it, little easier to troubleshoot one user and work our way up to broader scopes. If I think of anything else, (drawing a blank right now) Ill check it out, but personally I would had used two nic myself as well to break up the traffic, I dont know it if would act or function right giving one nic two IPs in this situation.

I tried allready a single user with both possibilities permit or deny but it was the same result.I would like to know how i can force the systemto use y.y.y.202 instead y.y.y.212.Any ideas ?
