move email accounts settign from outlook 2010 to outlook 2013

Is it possible to import e-mail accounts (pop3, smtp etc.) to outlook 2013 from 2010? I wanted to start using 2013 but the described below reg based import works only for 2010. Could not find any information at all on the web. Please help :)

I recently upgraded from 2010 Home & Business to 2013 H&B.  I uninstalled 2010 and then installed 2013.  2013 picked up all 5 of my e-mail accounts. including the passwords, and all the other settings I had in 2010. It even located my to PST files that are located on a second disk.  I did not have to do anything at all -- it was automatically handled by 2013.  So no need to fool around with importing.

Forgot to say the computer also changed. The steps I took were:

Use office 2013 for one month - trial with new computer.

Buy, and install office 2010

Upgrade to office 2013

Move outlook conf pst and e-mail settings withe registry method - with the result described in the first post.

Your solution might work if I reinstall Office 2013 - and I really would like a better solution.

hey man this is my walkthrough for migrating accounts to 2013

The computer with outlook 2007\2010

  • Type REGEDIT and go to
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles\
  • Right click on the profile and choose Export and choose location.

The computer with outlook 2013

  • Right click on the exported file edit (notepad).
  • In notepad click Edit and then replace.
  • In the first line put
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles\Outlook
  • In the second line put
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Outlook\Profiles\outlook
  • Click replace all
  • Make sure your outlook profile name is ' outlook ' this is the default name
  • Now you can open outlook and see all the pop accounts the only thing you need to do is put the passwords back and thats it.
  • If you have 'unknown error ' try removing your exchange mailbox and set it up from start (the pop account might try to use this mailbox and only after you set it up from beginning it will work correctly)

Hi,

I tried do apply this trick, but I wanted to move my outlook 2013 email accounts from my w8 laptop to my new w8 surface. I tried to understand the steps you provided and apply it to a OL 2013 to OL 2013 moving (and both W8) both I got loose at the end and I didn't proceed...

I tried all to move the email accounts with no success. I moved the pst file, I imported the pst file from the laptop OL 2013, but accounts never moved at all. Emails, contacts moved ok.

I am running W8 enterprise and OL 2013 32 bits (on both machines), if you can send me the steps to do it would be great. I can reset the Surface if needed.

Thanks!

Hi,

I did the registry thing and got all my accounts. But when I copied over the pst file and point to the old file, I now receive an error during send/receive stating 0x8004010F Outlook Data file cannot be accessed for all the accounts.

Any Ideas?

First, I used this trick and it worked perfectly.  Thank you!  Second, when it asks for the data file, I already had one set up (or you can copy it from the old PC).  When it gives the error, it also asks for the location of the data file and allows you to set it.  Just tell it where the data file is and you are golden.

The registry fix shown above worked great for me too, but see the CAVEAT below.

Also, two updates/corrections to it are listed below (underlined and bolded):

The computer with outlook 2007\2010

  • Type REGEDIT and go to
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles\
  • Right click on the profile and choose Export and choose location.

The computer with outlook 2013

  • Right click on the exported file edit (notepad).
  • In notepad click Edit and then replace.
  • In the first line put
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles\Outlook
  • In the second line put
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Outlook\Profiles\Outlook
  • Click replace all, and save the file.
  • Make sure your outlook profile name is ' Outlook ' this is the default name
  • Double-click the new .REG file to import the edited .REG file into the registry.

CAVEAT: This procedure left my "Rules and Alerts" in a corrupted state. Now when I click "Rules and Alerts", to confirm it imported my Rules and Alerts from Outlook 2010 on my old Windows7 PC, I get "the operation failed because of a registry or installation problem. Restart or reinstall Office". So I tried repairing MS-Office Pro 2013 from the installation disc, but it still gets the same error message! Sheesh!

I just upgraded from Office 2007 Military Appreciation version which came with Outlook, Word, Excel, and something else, to Office 2013 Professional Plus on the same machine.  It also kept all my Outlook accounts settings even with uninstalling 2007 first.

Thank you very much, using around 12 accounts you save hours for me.

I did exactly as you described above. As I opened Outlook2013 it told me that my Mailbox is restored as a result of Outlook 2013 upgrade and it would take upto 15 mins.

At the end  it works fine. :)
