ok so add a dl group to ad, I then update the oab on the exchange server then from outlook I update the address book. I get nothing new, if I wait for the standard amount of time it works. What am I doing wrong or will this not work for me? thanks tr

I can think of 2 3 things that you need to consider for these changes to happen: 1. Active Directory Replication 2. AddressList Update 3. Offline Address Book Update Either way, the one common setting you can edit on your exchange environment is the Offline Address Book Update Schedule, Exchange 2007: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa997668(EXCHG.80).aspx Exchange 2003: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/841273

Hi, Firstly, please understand the order in which the Check Names command searches address lists is determined by the Exchange client. By default, Outlook only checks Global Address List and Contacts but not All Groups Address List. Therefore, you can see the new group in the All Groups Address List but failed to perform a check name. You are able to modify it by using following steps: 1. Outlook -> Tools -> Address Book 2. Tools -> Options -> Add the All Groups Secondly, the Offline Address Book is generated according to the Address List associated to it. By default, it associated to the Default Global Address List. In Exchange 2007, when a new group is created, the group is associated to Default Global Address List automatically. You can view the attribute ShowInAddressbook of the user/group by using Adsiedit.msc tool to check the situation. Then, I suggest you read to following article to understand the detailed process of OAB generation, distribution and download in Exchange 2007/Outlook 2007 environment Note: Outlook 2003 downloads OAB through Public Folder. Exchange 2007 Offline Address Book Web Distribution http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2006/11/15/431502.aspx In addition, please understand we do not recommend that you update OAB more frequently as this may affect client and server performance. Generating the offline address book files on the Exchange computer on a more frequent basis may cause performance problems on the server. thanks for the reply I had already figured out what was going on but your response would have made it easier! it was the fds component which defaults to an 8 hour update cycle so I just forced the update and boom it was done! I ran my favorite utility dsquery toview theshowinaddress and it was good so I was stumped for a while! Once again thanks! tr
