mailto in outlook after check name has run the email type is invalid

Good evening all,

My customer is using Sage 50 Accounts 2014 they have the option to export to outlook 2010.  This then users the mailto protocol to save the email into the outlook clients drafts.  When we open up the email from the drafts folder it seems ok it has the customers email address in the to field, we then press check names button which it underlines the email as expected.  However, if you now right click on the email address and click on outlook properties you get the "email type" filed set to INVALID if you click on the button next to it Internet Type it changes it to SMTP and will then send the email no problem.

The DNR we have been getting is like this:

 IMCEAINVALID-Example+40name+2Ecom@Domain.local

#550 5.4.4 ROUTING.NoConnectorForAddressType; unable to route for address type ##

I have substituted the email address information with the words Example, Name and Domain.

Troubleshooting:

We have cleared all of the contact cards in this outlook profile.  We have rebuilt the outlook profile.  We are using online profiles so there is no OST to worry about.  The outlook client is able to send and received emails in a normal way no problem.  Sage dont believe this is an issue with their product or the installation.  This is happening to all the users that use the Sage software. We have created new customers in Sage in case the database was corrupted but this has not made a difference.  When using a website link using mailto the issue does not occur.

I really need some help with this my gut feeling is that this is ether an outlook or Sage issue ether way I need a fix.  So if anyone can help it would be much appreciated.

Hi David, this is a known issue with Outlook clients. Exchange will not be send email for a contact that email-type is MailTo instead of SMTP. What version of Outlook are you using? My guess is you need to keep you outlook application up-to-date.

I think there was an old outlook cumulative patch rolled out for this issue - its worth checking out.

Hi Siva,

i have been looking online quite a bit in the last few days and i can see there have been many posts about this issue however they are all for outlook 2007 and was caused by a secuirty update that is not applied to our system.

we are running outlook 2010 with exchange 2013.

I have just tired this but have been still unsuccessfull.

Hi David, have you tried deleting the suggested contacts from

control panel-> mail > E-mail Accounts > Address books > Outlook address books > click on "Suggested Contactshttp:<smtp address>" and remove them.

These suggested contacts are stored in :

C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\RoamCache\Stream_Autocomplete.dat

Also, please take a look at http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/outlook_nk2_edit.html

If you still have an issue - I recommend you post this on the outlook forums, so that one of the Outlook MVP's or experts would be able to help you out!

All the best!

Hi Siva,

i have run the tool you have provided me and only two email addresses are in the autocomplete.  can you tell me if this a outlook issue or an exchange issue?

Thanks,

David.

David, this is more of an Outlook issue than to Exchange. I suggest you open a question in the Outlook Forums and I am sure one of the MVP's out there will be able to nail it down!

best!

Hi David,

As far as I searched, please try to remove the autocomplete in Outlook client via: Click the File tab>Options>Mail>Under Send messages>Empty Auto-Complete List.

Then install a hotfix and test the issue:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2597052

I hope it can help.

I have the same issues. I tried several options.

Exchange 2007 -> Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2013 -> cached mode ->no issues
Exchange 2007 -> Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2013 -> online mode ->no issues
Exchange 2013 -> Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2013 -> cached mode ->no issues

Exchange 2013 -> Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2013 -> online mode ->issue!

Diagnostic code = OrNameUnrecognized; Reason code = TransferFailed; Status code = 510
< #5.1.0 smtp;550 5.1.0 RESOLVER.ADR.InvalidInSmtp; encapsulated INVALID address inside an SMTP address (IMCEAINVALID-)>

If I open the properties of the emailadres, the fields "emailadress" and "emailtype" are left empty.
Therefore Exchange takes the displayname, and adds the local domain as extension.

I also used a new profile. No results.

This issues occurs when sending an email from our business application off UNIT4.
If I click on hyperlink and use mailto: we have no issues.

Anyone any ideas?

Having the same issue, but with Adobe.  Any solution ever found?

Hi all, Basically it was a sage issue. I think we worked around this issue by recreating the reports in sage and a new outlook profile. There was a work around where if you save to drafts then to have to ether type in the email address or change from the email format to another I.e. HTML to rich text. Not sure about the adobe issue sorry. Normally this issue occurs with the new way in which exchange 2013 handles Mapi profiles.
