mailbox retention audit
How can you see: what mailboxes are still on an exchnage server, the size of the mailbox, and the mailbow owner, i.e. the domain account the mailbox was tied too. Also, will there be any indication on the mailbox to see if the domain user has been disabled? Or will it still "look the same". what tool would need to be used to provide this information, and can it be done for each mailbox - considering we have several thousand?

1. I assume you're referring to Exch 2003. If yes, then just use ESM. Go to each dDB, expand until you get to mailboxes and see what mailboxes exist. You can add/remove columns when you select the mailboxes folder under the storage group and add the colums for size & full mailbox directory name. 2. The maibox will still look the same if it's been disabled. 3. There are 3rd party tools which you can use such as Quest Message Stats to get all the above and more at a price.Sukh

Sukh Thanks again, yes exch 2003. I have never used ESM, can you provide a screenshot of how each dDB will look like and what info it will store about each mailbox? Is it just like a folder view and you expand and each mailbox in this dDB (whats a dDB) will be listed? Is there typically more than one dDB on an exchnage server? And can you export from ESM a list of all these mailboxes and stats i.e. created size domain user per dDB out to excel/csv? Thanks!

1. Yes, expand. edb was a type, DB - short for database. http://exchangeshare.files.wordpress.com/2008/04/image35.png 2. Depends, there can be one or more, depends on how it's been setup - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/890699 3. Yes, right click on mailboxes folder then export to txt, import to excel.Sukh
