mailbox is almost full
Hello, I use Exchange 2007 and got a user complaining about warnings received while on vacation because his mailbos was almost full. I checked the logs and noticed that the user got between 4-5 mails a day. Is there any paramater that can reduce that amount of alertes from the exchange servers? How to Configure Storage Quotas for a Mailbox Database Warning message interval Use this list to specify a time at which mailboxes in the database are scanned for compliance with the storage limits configured. Exchange will send notification messages to all mailboxes for which the size exceeds one or more of the storage limits. You can select from one of the predefined intervals in the list or create a custom schedule.

Thats based on the quotanotificationschedule set on your DB. Out the box it's once a day I believe 1am. You can check it by running Get-MailboxDatabase | FL QuotaNotificationSchede or check via the gui, DB properties tab, limits, warning message interval. It's based on 15 min intervals by default it's 1am to 1:15am so fires once. If you set the window to say 1am to 1:30am it will fire twice. Thanks James, I ran: [PS] C:\GRAIG>Get-MailboxDatabase -Identity "SEREX01\SG02\COMPANY" | fl quotanotificationschedule QuotaNotificationSchedule : {sun..19:00-sun..22:00, mon..19:00-mon..22:00, tue..19:00-tue..22:00, wed..19:00-wed..22:00 , thu..19:00-thu..22:00, fri..19:00-fri..22:00, sat..19:00-sat..22:00} It shows the custom time from 7 pm to 10 pm. However I could not see the interval from here so I connect on the EMC, DB ptoperties tab, limits, warnning message interval and it is set to 1 hour! So I do not get why that user belonging to that SG gets mails every 15 mn... Any explanation?

I dont understand your question from your output it says you have the window from 7pm to 10pm, your logs smtp logs are showing the correct behavior and firing the notification at 7pm at 15min intervals. I guess your question is the shell is showing 7-10 but the gui is showing 1hour only? On the DB properties tab, you're clicking customize and looking a the blue line, detail view 15 mins and you're seeing only 1 hour and not 3?

Sorry let me be clearer. The notifications are sent from 7 pm to 10 pm which is correct. I do not want an interval of 15 mn for the notification and do not know how to change it to 1 hour. I agree with I got confused with the detail view.. DO you know how to set the interval to 1hour for the notification ?

You can't change the frequency in which the reminders are sent out. I would leave it the default of 1am to 1:15am or if you need more 9am - 915 than 5-15 so a total of 3 reminders go out.James Chong MCITP | EA | EMA; MCSE | M+, S+ Security+, Project+, ITIL msexchangetips.blogspot.com

By default, Exchange 2007 has a threshold of a little over 2 GB on a mailbox. You can either increase that threshold or tell the user to clean up the mailbox. Start with the deleted items. If that does not work, archive the e-mails to a user folder or something like that.

Thanks James. How can I set a schedule like 8am-8:15am and and 1pm to 1:15pm for all the storage groups? Can that be done through a Shell command? Graig

Not for each storage group, but for each database. Get-MailboxDatabase | Set-MailboxDataBase -MaintenanceSchedule ` 0.8:00-0.8:15,0.13:00-0.13:15, ` 1.8:00-1.8:15,1.13:00-1.13:15, ` 2.8:00-2.8:15,2.13:00-2.13:15, ` 3.8:00-3.8:15,3.13:00-3.13:15, ` 4.8:00-4.8:15,4.13:00-4.13:15, ` 5.8:00-5.8:15,5.13:00-5.13:15, ` 6.8:00-6.8:15,6.13:00-6.13:15, ` You can use the GUI if you like. Just select the "15 minute" radio button in the "Detail View" on the maintenance schedule's "Customize" button. --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP
