mailbox connected, but user is not
Hello,The problem:This is an odd one. Basically, (in a 2003 environment) I have a mailbox that is assigned to a user but, the user does not have a mailbox assigned to it. What I can/can't do:I can look at other users objects and their associated Exchange information. (not a "you're looking in the wrong place")I have run the Cleanup Agent on the mailbox store with no change in the mailbox (It's not disconnected)I have looked into ADSI to confirm there is no information on the homeMDB attribute for the user. (The user is not connected to the mailbox)Question(s):Has anyone seen this before, and if so what did you do?You can look at a user and see where their mailbox is, but can you look at a mailbox and see where their user is? I'm thinking maybe the mailbox is connected to someone else, hence the lack of change on the Cleanup Agent. If the mailbox was disconnected, I could simply reconnect the mailbox. Thanks for any help on this!

Since Exchange attributes are ADDED to a user, I didn't think this was possible. Sorry I can't help, but I am posting to subscribe.

However, I_thin_ you mean that you can see (using ADUC) that the user isassigned mailbox in a particuar database, but when you look for themailbox in the Exchange System manager you don't see it in thatdatabase. If that's the case then all it means is that the user hasn't connected the mailbox yet, or no mail has arrived to be stored in themailbox. The Information Store won't create the mailbox until there'sa need to do so.>>What I can/can't do:>I can look at other users objects and their associated Exchange information. Not exactly. What you can do is to add the full directory name columnto the view of the mailbox database in Exchange System Manager. Thatwill show you the value of the user's legacyExchangeDN property. Youuser object associated to the mailbox.>I'm thinking maybe the mailbox is connected to someone else, hence the lack of change on the Cleanup Agent. Hello,I have to say, I was perplexed about this. What Chrislehr said (attributes are applied to user not mailbox) was what I was thinking, but the behavior was different. I think we have to chalk this up to PEBCAK (a.k.a. me) I (thought) I had searched for the user in the entire forest (but probably did not). I managed to move the mailbox thinking that might reveal something. It did, the fact that the mailbox was attached to the same username in another domain (same forest). After some disconnects and reconnects and moves the user was right as rain. Thanks for the help everyone. I HATE it when I hit the community for help and it ends up I just wasn't diligent enough! Argh! Thanks,Gene
