The default policy can be left alone and you can create additional policies. That is what I always do anyway. The default policy is left alone - which is the same best practise as with Exchange 2003. You can even deselect the option on the users to allow the policies to update the email addresses automatically and do it manually - again as you could with Exchange 2003. Thanks. It is Exchange 2007, not exchange 2003.

Thanks. It is Exchange 2007, not exchange 2003. I read that. I was referring to the fact that nothing has changed since Exchange 2003. The practise is the same with Exchange 2007 as it was with Exchange 2003. Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP. http://blog.sembee.co.uk , http://exbpa.com/

Thank you. Yes, you can use a new email address policy to update user's primary email address. Please note that the email policy only generate a new email address for the users and it will set this new email address as the primary email address. You are unable to modify the original email address by using Email Policy. Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread. Thanks

Hi Gen, Thanks for the help. From my test in Exchange 2007, I have to use the default email policy to update users' primary email address. From your saying, I should be able to use the email policy to update users' primary email address with exchange 2007. Does it matter whether we use the authoritative domain or internal relay domain? Thank you.

That would tend to indicate you haven't applied the additional policies, so they aren't taking affect. Have you been through the Technet articles on how to create new policies, because the Default Policy is usually left alone. Thank you. I mean the primary email address (set reply) in Exchange 2007. I mean set reply address and the set reply is greyed out if you create the new policy. Then you have to use the default email policy. thank you.

You haven't applied the policy. If the policy says "False" next to applied then it isn't going to allow you to change anything, because unless the policy is applied it doesn't make any changes to the email addresses. Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP. http://blog.sembee.co.uk , http://exbpa.com/
