is there a way to create a Distribution group that pushes to an outside email address?
I was just asked by my boss if i could setup a rule on the Exchange server itself that will push any emails that have been marked as high importance to a distribution group that will email his hotmail/yahoo/gmail account. has anyone ever done this? is it even possible? I've been looking through the Exchange TechNet library for anything that might help but i'm not finding anything that touches on this.K McCall

You can just setup a contact for your bosses external account and then make this a member of the distribution group? Shaun

I do not believe there is any server-side rules that will do what you need though. What version of Exchange do you use? If it is 2007 there maybe something that can be used in the Transport Rules functionality but it would most likely have to be a 'message classification' type stamp, rather than importance rating I suspect. As Shaun said in the first reply create a contact (or contacts) for the external email address and put that contact in a DL. create a new rule in his mailbox as follows:Start with blank ruleStep 1 select marked as importance and select high importanceStep 2 select forward to people or distribution list and select the new DL you createdClick Finish unless you want to configure any exceptionsthis will create a server side rule that should do it, provided the emails are marked high importance.TBrennan

Hi, You could use Outlook rule as TBrennan mentioned. Please note you need to turn on "allow automatic forward" in the Exchange server side. In Exchange 2007, EMC| organization configuration | hub transport | remote domain | format of .... | allow automatic forward In Exchange 2003, ESM| Global settings | Internet message format | default properties | advanced tab | allow automatic forward thanks, Elvis
