is my MX record configured correctly?
Is my MX record configured correctly? My domain is parked with godaddy.com. At that site, I have changed my MX and A records to point to the static IP of my router. When I "nslookup -q-mx domainName.com" I get back the correct "mail exchanger" name
( mail.mydomain.com ) But the ip address of mail.mydomain.com does not display. ( an IP address does display when I run nslookup on microsoft.com )
thanks,
Here is the output of nslookup -q:
C:\Users\steve>nslookup -q=mx mydomain.com
Server: UnKnown
Address: 192.168.1.28
Non-authoritative answer:
mydomain.com MX preference = 0, mail exchanger = mail.mydomain.com
C:\Users\steve>nslookup -q=mx microsoft.com
Server: UnKnown
Address: 192.168.1.28
Non-authoritative answer:
microsoft.com MX preference = 10, mail exchanger = mail.messaging.microsoft.com
mail.messaging.microsoft.com internet address = 65.55.88.22

I am installing exchange to learn what it takes to config an email server.
So far I have:
- a static IP from the ISP ( verizon fios )
- registered a domain thru godaddy.com
- installed exchange 2010 on windows server 2008 R2. That server is running active directory, sql server.
- configed the cisco 520 router to forward port 25 to the server : 192.168.1.28
- changed the A to point to the static IP of my router>
- changed the MX record to mail.mydomain.com
What do I do next? Do I need the UCC/SSL certificate to receive mail thru the web?
When installing exchange I did enter "mail.mydomain.com" for the client access something or other.
My active directory/server domain is store.MyDomain.com . Are there config steps needed for linking mail.mydomain.com , store.mydomain.com and mydomain.com ?

what was missing for me on this was an "A" record at the godaddy hoster of my domain. I had to delete a CNAME record named "mail" and add an A record named "mail" with the static IP of my router.
The answers I got to my questions were outstanding. I greatly appreciate it.
