in-place eDiscovery & hold
In the EAC when I click on Compliance then in-place eDiscovery & hold I get "The request failed. The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized."   I get the same error when I click save after trying to create a new in-place eDiscovery & hold.

Hi,

Thanks for the question.

For the 401, this can be permission issues. I suggest we firstly check the RBAC permission by the following article. The In-Place eDiscovery needs the Discovery Management permission.

Thanks,

Thanks. I fixed this myself.  The NTLM and Negotiate providers were missing from Windows Authentication on the EWS virtual directory on both of my CAS servers.

Open IIS manager > Expand Default Web site > Click on EWS > Double Click on Authentication > Click on Windows Authentication > Click on Providers > in the Available Providers: drop down pick Negotiate > click add > pick NTLM > click Add > click OK

Do the same for the Exchange Back End Web site.
