i want to use DNS instead of a smarthost - for now
hi all, i am having an issue sending mail via the plus net smart host so i am thinking about switching to DNS to route mail out. Is there anything i need to be aware of? As far as i am aware all i need to do is change to DNS on the send connector. Do i need to do anything with DNS or anything else? Thanks

Hi As long as you can resolve public DNS records from your Exchange server and you ISP allows you to send on port 25 (SMTP) then you should be fine. If they have said that you need to use their smart host and they block port 25 you could have a problem. Steve

You will need to create another send connector and add the domains you need to it on the address space section. Go to Organization Management -> Hub Transport -> Send Connectors -> New Send Connector. Create an Internet connector (Intended use drop drop down) and then add the domains you need at the next step.

ok great thank you, what about the following - enable domain security (mutual auth TLS) - specify the FQDN this connector will provide in response to HELO do i need the above?

You don't need TLS and you can use the server's FQDN Are you creating a Send connector there or a receive connector?

hi, Yes, it is correct. You need to create one send connector. Then add all domains that you want to bypass net relay into the send connector address space. Then you can achieve your goal. hope can help you thanks,CastinLu TechNet Community Support
