how to use recovery storage group to recover on another drive..
Hello All- i thank you for your time and effort. and i apologize if this has asked before. i wasnt able to find anything on this... i want to restore a users mailbox that lives on mailbox server 2 storage group 3.... however we have free space on mailbox server 3 .. whenever i try to create a rsg thru the EMC and try to change the paths ....the error i get back is LogFolderPath is not a fixed disk... so question: if i move the free space from mailbox server 3...to server 2... and have it as a separate drive letter ....will that work? or does it need to be the same drive letter? i have read that it needs to be the same drive letter.. and that doesnt make sense since it would grow the current mb2 sg3 drive to overflow... thanks.

Launch the Exchange Troubleshooting assistant under the Toolbox work center in the EMC on the Mailbox server on which you want to mount the database to the recovery storage group. On one of the first pages in the wizard you specify the Mailbox server and storage group that you want to recover a mailbox database from. If you have different drive with sufficient disk space on same server where the mailbox is located, do the following; Exchange 2007 Log on to Exchange server where the Recovery Storage Group will be created. Start Exchange Management Console, expand -> Database Recovery Management -> Open Tool -> on the Microsoft Exchange Troubleshooting Assistant Page click on Next -> Create a Recovery Storage Group -> Select the required Recovery Storage Group from list and Click Next -> On page ‘Create the recovery storage group’ provide the alternate recovery location to restore DB and log files and click Create the Recovery Storage Group -> You should now be able to see Message stating ‘Recovery Storage Group is created successfully’ Note:- Provide x:\RestorePath\Logs for chk and log files, provide x:\RestorePath\DBDATA\CMSMDBxx.edb for DB Exchange 2003 Start Exchange System Manager, expand Administrative Groups, <Sitename>, and expand Servers to find the server. Right click the Exchange server, point to New and chose Recovery Storage Group. When the Recovery Storage Group Properties window appears, edit the following properties: • In the Name box, type Recovery Storage Group. • In the Transaction log location and the System path location boxes, type <x:\Restorepath> Make sure that the path is different from the locations that are specified for the original Storage Group. Right click the Recovery Storage Group, and then click Add Database to Recover. In the Select database to recover dialog box, click the Mailbox Store where the mailbox(es) with deleted data exist, and click OK. In the Mailbox Store Properties window, review the properties of the Mailbox Store, and click OK. Proceed with your backup application for restore of selected DB store.
