Dear all I have 2 dns servers are running windows 2008 std., and 1 exchange server. The day one I installed the domain and exchange installation time I had only one domain controller later I added another one domain controller. this two are global catloge servers. My problem now my first domain controller (my first server) dns is down any problems happens my users are not able to use outlook. After a long try it is going to offlinebut domain loggin or file server access or internet access no problem. I want a solution any server one of this server is down shouldnt affect the exchange..especially the first domain controller is not working. Basically user shouldnt feel that this domain controller is downplease advise me what I am missing this automatic switch over.. Also I would like to know how I can check both domain contriollers are connected with exchange server 2010. Regards Anish krishnan

Exchange is designed to switch automatically if a domain controller goes down. Look at the Applicaiton event log MSExchangeADAccess 2080 entry that writes every 15 minutes to see the domain controllers Exchange thinks it can use. That might give you clues why it isn't switching over. Please post the entire event log entry here if you have further questions.Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

HI Anish, With agree ED, Exchange use alternate DC by its own but it takes some time. But you can also point it manually in case its not updating by itself. Provide event log details to help you further. Set-ExchangeServer -Identity <server_name> -StaticDomainControllers DC-01.dc.local,DC-02.dc.local to set the StaticDomainControllers Set-ExchangeServer -Identity <server_name> -StaticGlobalCatalogs DC-01.dc.local,DC-02.dc.local to set the StaticGlobalCatalogs Here a nice discussion for same question :) http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchange2010/thread/916c5a56-9fc9-4166-a027-7b4b980536b8Anil MCC 2011,ITIL V3,MCSA 2003,MCTS 2010, My Blog : http://messagingschool.wordpress.com

Those commands are not necessary unless you're trying to exclude domain controllers from use or select specific domain controllers for use. I don't believe they'll do anything to rectify the situation described in the original post.Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."
