i used ADSI edit to remove the hub servers and the other mailbox server that have no mounted database (before it was shutdown).

now only remaining is the last mailbox server where in ECP, it appears with mailboxes of unknown state. also, the DAG list shows this mailbox as the only remaining member of the old DAG (i have another DAG for Exchange 2013).

do i use the same steps i did with ADSI edit in removing the other Exchange 2010 servers?

Removing Exchange 2010 via ADSIedit is not supported by Microsoft. Uninstall it properly from Add/Remove programs is the only way to correctly uninstall it.

No server means, you have only adsi option. Make sure everything are pointed to Ex2013

Generally delete the server in ADSIEdit is not a recommended way. The method using ADSIEdit to remove an Exchange server should only be used carefully.

sometimes it's the only way to get rid of them

Navigate to the below location for doing that

CN=configuration
DC=domain name,DC=com
CN=Services
CN=Microsoft Exchange
CN=Organization
CN=Administrative Groups
CN=(Groupname)
CN=Servers

execute the following command using command prompt (run cmd as administrator): Setup.exe /mode:Uninstall /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms

Make sure that you delete only the correct exchange  server  that you need to delete below this container

yes all active databases are mounted on Ex2013.

i don't understand why to run setup? the servers are no longer available.

IF thats the case you can go ahead and remove that server container alone from ADSI edit.

i removed the last mailbox server. the previous DAG now shows no member server. the list of servers in the ECP servers tab shows the current active servers.

but in the databases tab, there is nothing listed. how do i get back the list of active databases?

if i do a search, it shows the databases fine. but without doing a search, there are no listed databases.

i think this is a bug with ECP.

how does one file for a bug?

i got it! i have to remove the remaining old databases.
