how can i backup the public folder in .pst format so i can synch it up with the new service ? You can drag and drop the public folder in the Outlook to the pst file. By default the public folder databse is stored in the .EDB file on your Exchaneg server. where in exchange server, I can go and find the .pst files ? Exchange does not store the mailbox data in the .pst file . Exchaneg data is stored in the .EDB file which you should able to locate on your Exchange server.Jasjit Singh Dhindsa | ITIL v3 | IASA Foundation Certified | MCITP:EMA Exchange 2010/2007 | MCTS:OCS 2007 | Exchange 2010/2007 | MCSA:Messaging/Security | MCSE:Messaging/Security

Make sure you have access to all Public folders. You can make PST of the Public Folders by logging into Outlook.

Thanks for the replies guys. In the exchange server, there are 3 .edb files which are around 96 G. How do i extract the public folders from it ? If it is setup on someone's PC, can i just download it as pst file and upload it to some where else ??

How do i extract the public folders from it ? These EDB should be mounted on Exchange Server then you should log into the server using outlook and connect to public folder and extract the content. If it is setup on someone's PC, can i just download it as pst file and upload it to some where else ?? NO, You cacnot use it just on someone PC. The EDB can mounted on Exchange server. If you want to extract the content directly out of the EDB you should use some third party tool like lucid8Jasjit Singh Dhindsa | ITIL v3 | IASA Foundation Certified | MCITP:EMA Exchange 2010/2007 | MCTS:OCS 2007 | Exchange 2010/2007 | MCSA:Messaging/Security | MCSE:Messaging/Security

As far as we know , there is no such a tool to export public folder in to PST file. But as others said, you can export public folders using Outlook. If you migrate to diffrent email system, that email vendor should have a method to migrate public folder data in to new messageing platform . Please contact your New Messaging vendor and ask what is the best possible way to migrate. RegardsChinthaka Shameera | MCITP: EA | MCSE: M | http://howtoexchange.wordpress.com/

Actually as Jasjit stated you can use Lucid8's DigiScope http://www.lucid8.com/product/digiscope.asp to open any offline mailbox or public folder Exchange 5.5, 2000, 2003, 2007 or 2010 database without the need for the exchange server or Active Directory to gain access to all the mailboxes, folders and individual items within. Once opened you can Browse, Search, Open and Export the entire database or specific mailboxes, folders or individual items within the EDB to PST, MSG & XML or recover data directly to any Production Exchange server or any version, i.e. you can take a 5.5 database and import the data directly from the database into a 2010 production server. Lastly since the question was about exporting to PST DigiScope supports both ANSI and UNICODE PST formats and if you reach the size limit (2GB ANSI & 20GB UNICODE) DigiScope has a PST overflow function, i.e. when the limit is reached a new PST will be generated i.e. "John Smith.PST" --> "John Smith-1.PST" etc. You can obtain a 30-day demo license that will let you open any offline database so that you can see all mailboxes, folders, items and do a sample ecport etc. Troy Werelius www.Lucid8.com Search, Recover, & Extract Mailboxes, Folders, & Email Items from Offline EDB's and Live Exchange Servers with Lucid8's DigiScope
