John , By default when you disable Email account , it will get deleted once it crosses Retention policy (30 days). There is a difference between disabling and removing the email account. When you disable a email box it only removes Exchange attributes for user accounts. But when you remove email box then , both user account , emailbox associated with that user account will get deleted. Refer below link to understand this better.. http://exchangeserverpro.com/exchange-2010-difference-between-remove-and-disable-mailbox http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee861106.aspx If you have already disabled email account , now if you want to delete them before they reach Retention policy. https://msmvps.com/blogs/andersonpatricio/archive/2007/10/08/removing-disconnected-mailboxes-in-exchange-server-2007.aspx Hope this information helps you. There isn't any ways to delete the disabled mailbox from EMC, only delete it with the AD account. MCTS: Microsoft Exchange Server 2007/2010 | MCSA

Hi, When disabling a mailbox from Exchange 2010, the Exchange attributes in the Active Directory user account get remove as well, but the email field in the AD user account general tab still shows the email address. It is by design with Exchange 2010 that the email field in AD user account remain unchanged when disabling mailboxes. So it's safe to remove the emails address manually from the user account in AD as its no more associated with the mailbox or Exchange. Hope it helps. ThanksSophia Xu TechNet Community Support
