how to change non-delivery error in Exchange 2003 ?
when message cannot be delivered due to some reason, an error is generated and sent to admin. however, notification doesn't contain sender address, for instance http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B195671&x=11&y=11 Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients. Subject: Test Sent: 1/30/2006 5:39 PM The following recipient(s) could not be reached: Test User (Test User@Contoso.com) on 1/30/2006 @ 5:39 PM The e-mail account does not exist at the organization this message was sent to. Check the e-mail address, or contact the recipient directly to find out the correct address. <server.contoso.com #5.1.1> how can I add sender address to that error report ?

Yes, I can go to the tracking center and find that letter, but it would be more helpful to add sender to NDR

Why are you puttingyourself in the middle? You're only getting a copy of the NDR, right? The sender should already have the NDR.The "Send Again" should show you the original sender, the intendedrecipinet(s), and the subject. we are changing our GAL on Exchange and somehow that affects message delivery, and I'm seeing messages "could not be delivered" regarding to changed GAL records. yes, client's address book should be refreshed in a time, but I'd like to know WHO exactly sent undelivered message, so it does make sense to modify default NDR I hope this time it is clear and if you have nothing to say, please do not teach me what to do and what not to do. I'm asking how to modify NDR because there're reasons for it.

Well, then I won't ask why changing the information in your ActiveDirectory (not the GAL, as you said) is causing NDRs. You don't needteaching. I guess you'll just muddle through it.---Rich MatheisenMCSE+I, Exchange MVP--- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP

Hi,Did you mean the sender should be added into the message body of the report? In fact, the sender is assoicated with Administrator which named postmaster@domain.com, you can find it in ADUC. NDR is hard-code and Microsoft doesn't recommend and support to do this operation. If you feel like doing this, please refer to the below article for this issue:http://blogs.technet.com/mcs-ireland-infrastructure/archive/2006/10/31/customising-exchange-warning-messages.aspxThanksAllen

NDR is defined in some RFC documentation as an Internet standard. Also, because Microsoft Exchange Server is a RFC-compliant product, the typical NDR messages are hard coded in Exchange Server. However this has changed in Exchange 2K7. You can now customize the NDR. A spent some time, but haven't found a way. Did you try it yourself ?

For more information, please refer to the below article: Delivery status notifications in Exchange Server and in Small Business Server http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;284204 Thanks Allen delivery status notifications (also, known as DSN) are for SMTP only. thus, one smtp server tells another smtp server what exactly was wrong. yes, it is good idea to iclude DSN codes to NDR (so, that regular user also could find out what error was), but none of those RFCs prohibits sender address inclusion. it seems that you don't make difference of DSN and NDR. I don't mind on DSN and I think those things are good. but I was asking about customising NDR
