how do I track emails I have sent from an alternate address
I am evaluating Exchange 2010 and have configured it as part of the domain (a.com), because I use several domains I have added a couple of accepted domains so that I receive emails for mike@a.com, mike@b.com and mike@c.comI have added additional pop/smtp accounts in outlook 2007 so that I can also send emails from b.com or c.com I have set the pop to not collect and the smtp to auth into the exchange server and it delivers the emails without complaintMy Problem is that I wanted to track emails sent from the secondary accounts but they do not come up in EMC->Toolbox->Message TrackingI can obviously see message sent from mike@a.com but how do I get to see the others please?Mike

Is this something that Exchange cannot do? I am used to a much cheaper email server that can produce significant logging if required and as a minimum allows me to view the days log and filter it in multiple ways How can I achieve similar monitoring with Exchange? I appreciate that when the email traffic rises to many thousands of emails per day I would not want to do this as a matter of course but I would like to have the capability so that when delivery or receipt of particular emails is questioned I can review the logs and provide a definitive answer

Thank you for this Rich, I have now investigated further and found the "Tracking Log Explorer" which enables me to see all messages flowing through the system, I should have found this before but previously assumed this wasn't working because of the error message from the Trouble shooting assistant when it tried to update I could not see any difference in these logs with logging set to None or Verbose on the Send Connector, is there any? or am I still looking in the wrong place? If you're using SMTPclients and delivering messages to places other than your organizationyour HT is just acting as a relay.I don't have a 2010 server, but on a 2007 server the logs are here:C:\Program Files\Microsoft\ExchangeServer\TransportRoles\Logs\ProtocolLog.. . . unless you've moved them somewhere else. :-)And you want the logging to be set on ALL your connectors. Turning iton after you have a problem is usually too late.---Rich MatheisenMCSE+I, Exchange MVP--- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP
