how can I isolate exchange servers in multi-domain trees
My company has multiple domain trees in a single forest. Each domain has their own Exchange environment. I just installed Ex 2k7 in my domain (new install- not an upgrade). Everytime I open the ex console it tries to connect to the other ex servers in the forest and then eventually stops with a bunch of errors due to permissions or connectivity. Is there a way to disable this "auto-connect feature" so my ex servers don't talk to the ex servers in the other domains? I want my exchange env. to be completely isolated from the other domains. Thanks...

Exchange 2000 and up use the concept of "Organizations". You can only have one organization per forest. Therefore, it is not possible for you to have multiple AD domains within the forest and not have a relationship between each Exchange server. Exchange needs to be architected from the top of the forest out. I'm not even sure where to begin to offer help in your situation, but Id look at this for starters.

Hi, Im afraid thats impossible. As one Forest can only have one Exchange organization, as each exchange organization requires a separate Global Catalog server in its own forest. It can only be done by creating a separate forest for the exchange 2007 organization. So when you install Exchange 2007 in an existing Exchange 2003 organization, Setup performs the following coexistence-specific tasks: -It creates the Active Directory universal security group ExchangeLegacyInterop. This group is granted the permissions that allow the Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2000 servers to send e-mail to the Exchange 2007 servers. -It creates the Exchange 2007 Administrative Group. This administrative group is called Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT). -It creates the Exchange 2007 Routing Group. This routing group is called Exchange Routing Group (DWBGZMFD01QNBJR). -It creates a two-way routing group connector between Exchange 2007 and a selected Exchange 2003 bridgehead server. Exchange 2007 and Exchange 2003 use different routing topologies. You must configure a routing group connector to enable mail flow between the Exchange versions. You mentioned some errors were encountered when opening Exchange Management Console, so can you paste the detail errors here? We may can find out a workaround for that. Hope this helps. Thanks, Elvis
