help in deployment
Hi all, I am trying to come up the exchnage 2010 deploy plan for our client (1300 users and 2TB data exchange 2003) they have two sites:one production site and one disaster recovery site (in case of outage of production site) at production site: one cas array (two CASs) at DR site: one CAS server DAG: two members one member to host 5 DBs(500 GB each) one member hosts 3 active copy one member hosts 2 active copy It seems that they do not want to purchase the second DAG member server. Just wonder, if I only put one DAG member in production site, will DB activate in DR if I reboot one DAG member server? Any concerns? any problems with this design? Thank you.

I'm not sure I understand what you are asking. -- Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems." . Hi , you mean that you want to put 1 server in production and 1 in DR site ? its mean when your production will down so DR will automatically up and running. because when it will not get primary server it will shift to secondary server but than we cannot call it DR site it will be just a passive node of your DAG. Hi , I think there is no option for your case because 1st of all you have to read DAG completely and you will get my point that it will shift to other server automatically to second server so if you want to prevent it so you have to put second server in main office and than you can enable DR site to work properly. If you want to stop the DR site from activating automatically, you can disable that by running the following command on the DR servers: Get-MailboxDatabaseCopyStatus -Server "DRServer" | Suspend-MailboxDatabaseCopy -ActivationOnly -Confirm:$False See Link and section "Blocking a database copy from being activated" http://www.msexchange.org/articles_tutorials/exchange-server-2010/high-availability-recovery/uncovering-exchange-2010-database-availability-groups-dags-part4.html Tim Harrington - Catapult Systems - http://HowDoUC.blogspot.com

Hi , But in this case you have to manually copy the database and it will not automatically copied to DR site. Regards. Shafaquat Ali. M.C.I.T.P Exchange 2007/2010, M.C.I.T.P Windows Server 2008, M.C.T.S OCS Server 2007 R2, Phone: +923008210320

Replication does not stop in this case, only thing that is disabled is activation (when using the activationonly parameter). From acticle: "Notice this does not suspend replication for the database copy and thereby result in, an over time, huge copy queue. Only the database copy is being block from activation." Hi SGryzbowski, Per your description, sure if you have three members server in your DAG, when you want to reboot one of the member server in your datacenter (production site), the orther two members must online. That is, when you have three members server in one DAG, you must keep two of them healthy, or, the DAG would failed. If I misunderstand your issue, please tell me. Regards! Gavin
