getting error during install An attempt was made to modify an object
I have two 2008 R2 servers as domain controllers plus two 2008 R2 servers joined to the domain only. Not member servers. I am trying to get Exchange 2010 installed and get the same error from either server. All the servers are newly loaded and fully patched. Here is the error I'm getting- The following error was generated when "$error.Clear(); New-MicrosoftExchangeRecipient -DomainController $RoleDomainController " was run: "Active Directory operation failed on server1.domain.local. This error is not retriable. Additional information: An attempt was made to modify an object to include an attribute that is not legal for its class. Active directory response: 0000207D: UpdErr: DSID-0315121C, problem 6002 (OBJ_CLASS_VIOLATION), data -1917775033 ". An object class violation occurred. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you run: Setup.com /PrepareLegacyExchangePermissions Setup.com /PrepareSchema Setup.com /PrepareAD Setup.com /PrepareAllDomains Run each of these in order and verify that the complete successfully before trying to install a server. If one step fails, stop and report back here with the full command you entered and the error message if youneed help. That should help narrow down where your problem is occurring.Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

Thanks, thanks, thanks. That did it. Wouldn't have thought it needed it on a fresh install.

Technically what you did should work, but breaking it into separate steps will help identify any permisisons or other issues. I'm glad it solved your problem.Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."
