forwarding limit?
I'm trying to do chained forwarding but am not having too much luck. What I want to do is have a user forward their email to another internal account using an Outlook rule. That internal account has been modified to forward emails to an external account. So an email should be forwarded from the first internal account to the second internal account and then forwarded again to the external account. After trying it out, it seems as if Exchange can only handle a single forward. If I send to the first internal account, its forwarding rule fires, but not the second account's rule. However, if I send a message directly to the second account, its forwarding rule fires and the email is sent to the external account. I was under the impression that there is no limitation to the number of times an email can be forwarded in Exchange 2003. Is there some setting I need to modify to make this happen? Thanks.

Have you tried setting up the forwarding in exchange rather then in outlook? To setup forwarding on the server go to the user account > open the properties for the user > go to the Exchange General tab > click delviery options in there you will see the option to forward the mail on, if you want it to go to an external account you have to create a contact in the active directory first. There is also an option in there to forward the mail and keep a copy in the inbox.

Yes, the second forwarding rule is in Exchange. In fact, this is the only way to forward an email to an external account (besides setting some global flag to allow autoforwarding to external accounts for ALL users which we don't want). Setting the option to keep a copy in the inbox has no effect in getting the second forwarding rule to fire.I did a little extra testing and tried to set up a forwarding rule in Outlook for the second user to another internal account and found that THAT rule did NOT fire as well. So it seems as if Exchange can only handle a single forward for a message. If I am wrong, please somebody correct me.
