first storage group is missing
hi, am new to exchange. just started learning about it. i have 2008 server installed on my comp and i have installed exchange 2007 sp1 on it. once i have finished installing exchage 2007 i cld see the first storage group in exchange management console under server config mailbox. once i restarted the whole system i cannot see the storage group anymore, just a message saying no items to view. tried to create a second storage group but cannot as comp say i have no permissions but am logged in as admin with which i have installed 2008 and exchange, i dont understand when am admin what more permissions do i need. tried to uninstall exchange, i cannot do it either as mailbox cannot be found n i hav no permission. so what i hav done is got into c:\program files/microsoft/exchange/mailbox\first storage group to check, here i can see the file(mailbox database.edb) but the path and storage group is missing in exchange console. i dont know how to solve this issue, been through internet and different forums but couldn't find solution. can some1 plz help as i cannot go any furthure if this issue is not solved. tried installing sp2 its same prob in sp2. guess i must be doing something wrong and i dont know where am i going wrong, can some1 kindly help me, THNX. been through one of the website where i got the info that there are 3 kinds of admins in exch 2007 and i have to be organisation administrator to do these tasks but i dont understand who shd i promote a admin to organization admin.

1. Have you added your admin account to the Exch Role. See below of the roles. Add your admin account to this role and then use this admin account to lauch Exch management console. http://www.msexchange.org/articles_tutorials/exchange-server-2007/management-administration/exchange-2007-permissions-and-roles-part1.html 2. Other than looking for the storage group have you tried to perform another task such as create a email address policy to prove you have rights, http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124401(EXCHG.80).aspxSukh

It's either 1.your account is not in the Exchange org admin group (open your account in active directory users and computers and see if you're a member of this group) 2. The default Exchange groups were not created properly, in this case re-run setup /prepareAD 3. The permissions got mucked with on the storage group containers in adsiedit, make sure it's inheriting permissions and has the appropriate Exchange groups listed with their permissions. Verify 1 first. James Chong MCITP | EA | EMA; MCSE | M+, S+ Security+, Project+, ITIL msexchangetips.blogspot.com

Hi, Please try to use get-storagegroup |fl to check if you can find it. Besides, please try to delete the windows profile and then re-create to see if it would solve the problem.
