exhcange 2010 does not complete rollup installation, because services will not restart
the rollups install fine, but they never complete. is there anyway to specify installing them without them trying to restart the services? I can then reboot or restart afterwards?

I would be looking at why the services don't start. That would probably be a sign of third party interference. After a reboot is everything working correctly? The behaviour you are seeing isn't normal, and rather than tackling the symptoms, you should be looking at the cause. Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP Blog | Exchange Resources

Hi, I have seen the same issue several times now. Some times it just takes a really long time to complete other times I get an error saying that it has trouble reaching the Exchange service. Last time i put an rollup on Exchange 2010 SP1 servers they took around 30 min to complete, but it went through without problems. The issue with the Exchange service can be resolved by manually restarting the services during the rollup/sp install, this has to be done several times during the rollup. I restarted and set the service state using two powershell commands, so it wasn't to hard to do, just a shame that I had to. I my case with the services it isn't due to thirdparty software since it is Microsoft only and dedicated Exchange servers, even without antivirus as well. /MartinExchange is a passion not just a collaboration software.
