exchange and dns record
okay, i'm new at the exchange server setup, and working on a transition for a client with changing their hosting company. My question is simple, the site currently has the following references:mail.mysite.com goes to the public ip of the exchange box which is in house.where I'm confused....mx1 priority 10 goes to server21.appriver.commx2 priority 20 goes to server22.appriver.comWhy would their be mx records going to another address when mail.mysite.com goes to the exchange server. I cannot ask the previous tech who was working this account because he kinda screwed the client, so working relationships between my client and he are a bit burnt.thanks

Your client might have some other relay servers located somewhere Your ISP may queue your mails for you when there is no connection to your server server21 = 69.20.116.40 server22 = 69.20.116.41 Check with ISP or with your own public facing servers what server they are directed to Deli

thanks for the reply, i had checked on those ip's and they point to rackspace.com. The client's ISP is bellsouth, I don't see bellsouth outsourcing rack space. Do you think that could still be the case?I ran a trace route on it, but it times out after leaving bellsouth

There might be an SMTP filtering company that scans all the mails for viruses and spam messages So your client might be paying every month some amount of money to such a company to provide the filtering features Deli

you know... if I would have gone to appriver.com instead of appdriver.com, I would have found out that they offered exchange services and filtering services. Good call my friend. Thanks
