exchange 2007 and 2013 coexistence - relays, connectors and transport rules
We are about to go into coexistence between exchange 2007 and exchange 2013.

We understand once the emails are routed to the exchange 2013 server, all emails come to exchange 2013 and gets transported to mailboxes in exchange 2007.

My question is with regards to Receive connector, send connector, relays & transport rules.

1. Do we need to create these connectors while deployment for the proper flow of emails? or is it done after migrating all the mailboxes?

2. also the transport rules, do we import all the transport rules while deployment or after migrating all the mailboxes.

We have internet relays, internal relays, receive connector and send connectors. The question is if we move all these to the exchange 2013 server only after migrating the mailboxes or do we do this while deployment to ensure smooth flow of emails.

I'm assuming that you're saying that you're talking about one Exchange organization.

1. You need to create new receive connectors for Exchange 2013 because receive connectors are server-specific.  Send connectors are organizational, so you may change their SourceTransportServers to the Exchange 2013 servers, but you may need to update them to the current version.  I'm not sure what you mean by relays.  Transport rules are also organizational so those should apply.

2. No importing of rules required, they just carry forward.

You can switch your mail flow to Exchange 2013 at the beginning, middle or end of the transition, it really doesn't matter.  My preference is to do it at the beginning so it's done and you don't have to worry about it
