exchange 2007 New mailbox creation fails
We only have one exchange server and it's 2007 but we moved from exchange 2003 a while back This is the first time I have tried to create a new user and mailbox. I can create the user account but not the mailbox When I try to create the mailbox I get this: Summary: 1 item(s). 0 succeeded, 1 failed. Elapsed time: 00:00:00 Users Name Failed Error: Active Directory operation failed on DC2.ourdomain.com. This error is not retriable. Additional information: The name reference is invalid. This may be caused by replication latency between Active Directory domain controllers. Exchange Management Shell command attempted: Enable-Mailbox -Identity 'ourdomain.com/company Users/Sales/User Name -Alias 'usersalias' -Database 'EXCH\First Storage Group\Mailbox Database' Elapsed Time: 00:00:00 I have searched for a solution but not found any

Hello, When i look back it reminds me one bug, but i believe you're running on the latest Service Pack for E2k7. Second this is a clear cut replication issue. Just ensure your DC's are replicating with each other without any issue. Run Dcdiag /v > abc.txt and confirm the replicationArun Kumar | MCSE:W2K3 + Messaging | MCTS:Exchange 2007 | MCTS:OCS 2007 R2 | ITIL-F V3

all tests passed running Dcdiag /v > abc.txt on both DC's yes we have SP2 for Exchange 2007 installed I've seen other post from people getting similar errors being caused by AD issues so thought it might be that. when I try to run the command in the shell using verbose I get this message VERBOSE: Enable-Mailbox : Searching objects "EXCH\First Storage Group\Mailbox Database" of type "MailboxDatabase" under the root "$null" and was wondering if this is the problem. I read somewhere that there shouldn't be any $null in the AD.

How about if you create a new storage group and new mailbox store and try creating a mailbox in it?Arun Kumar | MCSE:W2K3 + Messaging | MCTS:Exchange 2007 | MCTS:OCS 2007 R2 | ITIL-F V3

What does ExBPA says? Have you looked this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928811

I looked at that article and it talks about setting up for a clustered mailbox server. Our server is not clustered and I when I looked into adsiedit and at that info it looked fine. I ran ExBPA and as far as I can see everything looked fine. I created a new storage group and new mailbox store and I got the same error when I tried to create a mailbox in it. Thanks for the suggestions!

Hi Ken, Please confirm your operator account has proper permission, you could confirm it as a member of Exchange repipient administrators and so on, you could use other account and add it to the groups to make a test. You also restart the SA service to make a test. I have runinto the same issue resolved by restart the SA service. Regards! Gavin

Alright, Run the following command to set the proper permission if any missing. setup.com /prepareAD Lets set the following diagnostic logging. MSExchange ADAccess\LDAP - Expert MSExchange ADAccess\Recipient Update Service - Expert After this save and clear your event logs and perform the mailbox creation process and check if you get any application log from the source MSExchangeAL Check the permission for the following folder <Install Drive>\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\Mailbox\address and ensure the permission should be inherited and ensure if you have any group which has explicit denied rights and if still issue persist past the event log for MSExchangeAL and other error occures during the new mailbox creation here if possible.Arun Kumar | MCSE:W2K3 + Messaging | MCTS:Exchange 2007 | MCTS:OCS 2007 R2 | ITIL-F V3
