exchange 2003 routing
hi guys, i have been tasked with creating a new email system at my new job but im stuck please can someone help. i have a exchange server sat in the DMZ (call this exc01) which is my front-end server and i have a 2nd exchange server that is in my network (call this exc02). i have a rule on my firewall to send inbound SMTP traffic to exc01 and i have a SMTP connecter for exc01 and inbound traffic comes in fine. what i am having a problem with is outbound traffic i want it to go out from exc01 and not exc02 (which it is doing at the moment). i have been doing research into it and i think i need to set up a routing group but i am not sure if this is right and if i can only do it with 2 servers. please can someone get back to me asap as this has toke me to long and i want to put this to bed now as ive still got be rebuild the whole network and all lol many thanks sam

Sam, As per my understanding. HUst you want to bypass your DMZ sevrer for outbound mesages. For this, you can create one SMTP connector which should point to external Smart Host or DNS sevrer and disbale existing SMTP connector which is pointing to Exch01. To acheive this you must have to open port 25 in firewall (DMZ) segment. How to configure the SMTP connector in Exchange 200x:: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/265293 Configuring an SMTP Connector:: http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Configuring-SMTP-Connector.html Hope this will help you :)Anil
