exchange 2003 errors migrating from exchange 5.5
I work in a local school system K through 12 so I am asking here hoping to save time and especially money. I am migrating an exchange 5.5 server to exchange 2003 I am using the exchange server depolyment tools and at step 3 I ran the DSScopescan.I checked the error log and found the entry Server Version Check began: ( shows our time)Warning Exchange server 2003 cannot be installed into your site '(here it references the name we used for the exchage 5.5 site) until a server in the site is upgraded to exchange 5.5 SP3 or later.Server: (here the log references our 5.5 server) version 5.5 build 1960.7We migrated from NT 4.0 to active directory about 2 years ago and have been working fine since then.I have retired all NT 4.0 servers and raised the domain functional level to Windows Server 2003.At this point I am trying to continue our exchange server upgrade process and hit a wall.Does the error refer to my site in exchange 5.5 or is it refering to the site in my Active Directory Sites and services.any and all help pointing me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Issue description: After ran DSScopescan to verify if the organization meets the requirement, warning occurs Exchange Server 2003 cannot be installed into site SiteName until a server in the site is upgraded to Exchange 5.5 SP3 or later Explanation: This warning has told the meaning literally. You need to upgrade your Exchange 5.5 Server to SP3 or higher before continuing. So, please lets start checking the version: Notes: By the way, you said Exchange 5.5 Server is build 1960.7, which means Exchange 5.5 RTM. Its not even SP1 (Please see KB 158530) 1. In the Exchange 5.5 Admin program, right-select the problematic server object>select Properties> General tab, check the Service Pack version of Exchange and the Build number Notes: Yet, this may be reported inaccurately 2. In order to reflect the actual installed version of Exchange, please use Registry a. Expand to HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Exchange\Setup b. On the right pane, check the value in the Data column of ServicePackBuild entry Its recommended that you apply/reapply SP3 or higher to Exchange 5.5 Server and any post SP Rollup fixes to resolve this warning However, if warning is not resolved after applying/reapplying SPs, or, if your Exchange 5.5 server is already at SP3, or higher, the Serial-Number attribute of your 5.5 server may be incorrect and indicate you have a pre SP3 version of Exchange 5.5 installed. Then, you may need to manually edit the Serial-Number attribute of Exchange 5.5 Server using the Exchange 5.5 Admin program in raw mode Please use KB 283131 to verify the Serial-Number attribute Resources: Migrating from Exchange Server 5.5 to Exchange Server 2003 Upgrading Exchange Server 5.5 to Exchange Server 2003 Migrating from Exchange Server 5.5 to Exchange Server 2003 (MSExchange.org)
