ex2k7: Import-Mailbox cmdlet: Import to a subfolder in mbx?
Hi there. I was looking into using the Import-Mailbox cmdlet to import user .pst files into their mailboxes. But, I don't want to import the .pst files into the root of their mailbox, but into a subfolder called something like Archive. Unfortunately, when looking at technet, I don't see any options to specify a subfolder during import. So, is it possible with the cmdlet, or will I have to do it manually with Outlook? Thnx

Import-mailbox doesn't have parameter to redirect the import in a specific folder so you need to have it manually copied with outlook... i really doubt that we can import it to subfolder. because Import-Mailbox is designed to import to its default folder structure. such as inbox to inbox and drafts to drafts. Vinod |CCNA|MCSE 2003 +Messaging|MCTS|ITIL V3|

That's what I was afraid of... Quite time consuming, considering the number of PST files, and the number of folders in each PST...Perhaps a future SP or rollup could have this addedd option - I can't imagine I'm the only one who would have usefor such an option...Anybody else know any tools (3rd party or not) that would support importing into a subfolder?

Hi,As Amit said, the import-mailbox command has no ability to control where the data from the import is placed. When performing the import via outlook or using exmerge weare able to define the folder to import into.ThanksAllen

Just a workaround which may sounds crazy but you can try copying everything (probably folders itself) in PST to a single folder in the same PST in Outlook. then use import-mailbox command. i hope this may fulfill your requirement? Thanks Vishal Ramnani | MCITP - Exchange 2007 | MCSE Messaging

That's not really an option considering the number of PST files, and the number of folders in each PST file. If I would do it like that, I could probably start my own company and have work for a year and earn some good amount of money ;-)@Jamestechman: You are referring to Ontrack PowerControls? And perhaps the add-on "Agent for PST as Source: Allows users to select any PST file and open as a source data store, performing all database operations including copying, exporting, and searching. Parent folders are implemented for PST sources"? Or something else?TY
