error when attempting to set an email address for a mail enabled public folder
hi everyone I have a windows server enterprise x64 server running exchange 2007 sp3 rollup5 in my organization. I am seeing a problem when attempting to assign an email address to a mail enabled public folder. I can go to the exchange management console > toolbox > public folder management console > default public folder and right click on the public folder and select "mail enable" successfully. BUT when I right click on the mail enabled public folder > properties > E-Mail addresses I see the following error: "The Active Directory proxy object for the public folder '\ourpublicfoldername' is being generated. Please try again later. It was running command 'get-mailpublicfolder -Server 'ourexchangeserver.ourdomain.com' - Identity '\ourpublicfoldername'. Thanks in advance Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi, Based on my experience, the issue is maybe due to “Microsoft Exchange System Attendant” service, which will not start at setup. So, my suggestion is: <1>Restart “Microsoft Exchange System Attendant” service <2>Disable public folder using Disable-MailPublicFolder –Identity “\yourpublicfolder” <3>Enable public folder again using Enable-MailPublicFolder –Identity “\yourpublicfolder” <4>Re-attempt to set an email address for a mail enabled public folder If the issue still occurs, please let us know. I followed your steps precisely as instructed, in order. The issue is still occurring. Also I have noticed the public folder object is not in the Microsoft Exchange System Objects folder in Active Directory Users and Computers. There are some other folders that are in AD that are able to be set up with no problems. I have searched for this missing object but was not able to find it. thanks again for your help. I am out of ideas at this point.

yes unfortunately, the only ones that seem to work are the very old ones, creating a new one gives the same error....

in addition, the only ones that work are in the Microsoft Exchange System Objects folder in Active Directory Users and Computers. The ones that dont work are not in that folder.

Do you see "Exchange Public Folder Administrators"? There is a raft of permissions granted to PF admins on individual properties on that OU. The "Exchange Servers" group is granted the permission to Create/Delete PF objects on the OU. "Domain Exchanger Servers" and "Enterprise Servers" have "Full Control". --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP
