error message Archive.pst cannot be found
Whenever a certain user opens Outlook 2007 she receives the message "archive.pst cannot be found".  If she clicks to get the message to go away Outlook still opens, it is just annoying for her to receive this message.  What can I do to get the message to go away.

Hi,

In the mail tab, do you see 'Archive Folders'?

If not, archive.pst has not been created or is lost.

File > New > Outlook Data File. And create an archive.pst file in most likely this location:

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\archive.pst

Best Regards,

Hello,

While testing Archive folders, I created some archive folders that I no longer want.  I attempted to delete the archive folders by using the instructions at http://answers.vt.edu/kb/entry/1781

I am using Outlook 2007.

The directions appeared to be thorough, professional, and I assumed reliable.  In short, the instructions say to delete the archive.pst file associated with each folder.  The pst filename can be found by viewing the properties of an archive folder and choosing the advanced tab.  I found the location of the archive pst files and after closing Outlook, deleted the corresponding archive pst files.  I followed the instructions exactly.

Now when I open Outlook, I can still see the files but I receive a pop up error message window for each archive folder I can still see but no longer has a pst file associated with it (because I deleted the associated archive pst file using Windows Explorer while Outlook was closed).

The message I get is: The set of folders cannot be opened.  The file C:\Users\[path]\TestArchive.pst cannot be found

The message does not interfere with the general operation of Outlook, but the folders still appear and the pop up message is annoying.

How do I get rid of the Archive folders I created at one time in Outlook in a way that will stop the message from continuing to pop up?

Thank you for looking into this question.

With Outlook closed -

Control Panel --> Mail applet --> for Win7 --> User Accounts & Family Safety --> Mail applet

With Mail Applet open --> Data Files --> remove references to any files in the list that you no longer want Outlook to try and open
