error during install of exchange 2007sp1 readiness check
Hello all I am starting an install of exchange 2007sp1 on windows 2008 x64 into an existing domain that already hasan exchange 2003 server. I have gone though all the checks and setup/upgraded the existing environment so that i am in a position to startthe install. During the Readiness Checks, for Mailbox Role Prerequisites I get this error "The CN=Public Folders object is missing under the CN=All Address Lists,CN=Address Lists Container,CN=enSynergy Consulting Ltd,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=ensynergy,DC=co,DC=nz object in the Active Directory directory service. Manually create the CN=Public Folders container, and then restart setup. Please visit http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935636/ for more information." I have checked the KB article and gone through it trying to eliminate the 3 possible causes. I am down to one. In my exchange 2003 server I do not have the Public Folders container in the place specified by the error. I tried to create one as suggested but this failed as I was trying to create an object that was already defined. In the Exchange System Manager console on the windows2003 server,I have found 2 objects called "Public Folders".It seems that when this installation was originall set up back in the exchange 5.5 days they created a public folder tree under the Folders folder called Public Folders - for public folders, instead of putting all their public folders under the Public Folder Store. At this stage I cannot complete the exchange 2007 installation and the alternatives are not that attractive in terms of complexity and work and disruption. How can I get around this error or fix it? thanks

Hi all again, no one seems to have run into this problem or I haven't made myself clear. i'm getting desprite now and this morning using adsiedit.msc I tried to move the Public Folders container into the correct Container that exchange 2007 is expecting it to be in, but this failed with this error: "the object cannot be added because the parent is not on the list of possible superiors" essentially I believe I have a folder/container called Public Folders in the wrong place for exchange2007 - can anyone out there help me with suggestions on how to correct this? thanks - I really need some help on this one

Hi, Please try to run ExBPA tool to check the issue of the Exchange server. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=DBAB201F-4BEE-4943-AC22-E2DDBD258DF3&displaylang=en Thanks Allen

Hi Allen - thanks for replying. I have run the ExBPA and the results are: HealthCheck - quick version - critical - global incoming message size not set global outgoing message size not set offline addressbook definition missing 'HealDeCommitFreeBlockThreshold' not set I have also a bunch of non critical issue like my net drivers are 2 years old etc Permission check is OK - there appears to be no errors Connectivity and baseline checks OK - no errors The exchange readiness check only has the issue that the schema needs to be upgraded. I didn't think this to be an issue as its not marked critical and I thought the schema is upgraded during the installation of exchange 2007 if its needed. I will get the errors in the healthcheck scan sorted out and corrected. Once the errors are gone this should mean that I can pass the readiness check during the setup?? but I don't see any problems relating to the Public Folders so why am I getting knocked back on that one during the setup execution. thanks

the first two issues - global incoming and outgoing messages sizes are set to nolimit, which is what we want at this stage. The missing offline address book definition is definitely missing but the area is greyed out (general tab - properties box of the mailbox store) cannot do anything about this. On another note - yesterday I started to export out to pst files all the emails in the public folders with a view to deleting the folders to try and get back to a "fresh" clean public store - however it won't let me delete the internet newsgroup folder. What I was hoping to acheive was to be able to delete the Public Folders folder which is under the Folder tab and then using asdiedit create the one it requires in the correct container. Would this is a viable way of progressing this installation? thanks
