difference between exchange server 2003 and exchange server 2007
what is the difference between exchange server 2003 and exchange server 2007
May 19th, 2007 8:56pm

Kind of a difficult question to answer given that there is a lot of functionality overlap between the two. 2007 offers a number of new features, as described here: http://www.microsoft.com/exchange/evaluation/topreasons.mspx Tony www.activedir.org

Thanks Rajeev HI Rajeev, Some of digramaitc differnce are: 1.Protection: anti-spam, antivirus, compliance, clustering with data replication, improved security and encryption 2.Improved Information Worker Access: improved calendaring, unified messaging, improved mobility, improved web access 3.Improved IT Experience: 64-bit performance & scalability, command-line shell & simplified GUI, improved deployment, role separation, simplified routing 4.Exchange Management Shell: a new command-line shell and scripting language for system administration (based on Windows PowerShell). Shell users can perform every task that can be performed in the Exchange Server graphical user interface plus additional tasks, and can program often-used or complex tasks into scripts that can be saved, shared, and re-used. The Exchange Management Shell has over 375 unique commands to manage features of Microsoft Exchange Server 2007.5."Unified Messaging" that lets users receive voice mail, e-mail, and faxes in their mailboxes, and lets them access their mailboxes from cell phones and other wireless devices. Voice commands can be given to control and listen to e-mail over the phone (and also send some basic messages, like "I'll be late") 6.Removed the database maximum size limit. Database size is now limited by hardware capability and the window for backups and maintenance. 7.Increased the maximum number of storage groups and mail databases per server, to 5 each for Standard Edition (from 1 each in Exchange Server 2003 Standard), and to 50 each for Enterprise Edition (from 4 groups and 20 databases in Exchange Server 2003 Enterprise).

Hi Clemen,I hope below information will help you out, Exchange Server 2003 Exchange Server 2003 may be run on the Windows 2000 Server if the fourth service pack has already been installed. It may also be run on 32 bit Windows Server 2003. There is a new disaster recovery feature that is even better than before. It allows the server to experience less downtime. The Exchange Server 2003 received some features form Microsoft Mobile Information server as well. These include Outlook Mobile Access as well as ActiveSync. Improved versions of anti-spam and anti-virus were also included. Management tools for mailboxes and messages have been improved and Instant Messaging and Exchange Conferencing Server are now separate products. There are two versions available of Exchange Server 2003. These include the Enterprise edition and the Standard edition. There are many other features that are available on Exchange Server 2003. Exchange Server 2007 When Exchange Server 2003 was released there were no immediate plans as to what would happen to the product. A 2005 edition was dropped and it was not until the end of 2006 that the new version was released. Some of the new features included integration of voicemail, improved filtering, Web service support, and Outlook Web Access interface. The new edition was run on a 64 bit x 64 version of Windows Server. This increase the performance significantly. There are quite a few improvements to Exchange Server 2007. These include better calendaring, improved web access, unified messages, and better mobility. From a system protection standpoint there is more clustering, antivirus, anti spam, and compliance included. The IT experience is improved overall with a 64-bit performance. Deployment is better; routing is simplified as well as the command line shell and GUI. There have been many changes and improvements to the Exchange Server 2007 and it is better than ever. There are no definite plans as to what Microsoft has in store for Exchange Server but the next version will certainly be better than ever. You have a good day,Sachin Shetty

Hello Every one,Can anyone let me know what is difference between powershell and exchange management shell... ThanksHussain
August 25th, 2009 10:36am

Hi, Exchange Management Shell is a cmd based shell which is based on Windows PowerShell. Exchange Management Shell is used to Manage Exchange 2007 using PowerShell Commnands. It is installed when you install any of the Exchange 2007 Server Role, and can also install separately on some other machine to just remotely manage your Exchange 2007 Server. Also Windows PowerShell is installed separately, infact it is prerequisite of Exchange 2007. You can install Windows PowerShell to manage something else too like IIS 7 or Active Directory, provided that you have installed Snap in for that particular item, like Quest PowerShell Commands for Active Directory. Hope this helps. Regards, Laeeq Qazi|Snr Software Engineer(Exchange + Sharepoint + BES + DynamicsCRM) www.hostingcontroller.com
