delete user from exchange, but keep archive indefinitely.
If a user was to leave the company, i would like to set a retention policy of 60days for his mailbox to move items to his archive, and keep the archive indefinitely. is there a way to remove the user's primary mailbox, and active directory account, but keep the archive mailbox indefinite? would i just set an extremely high number for keep deleted mailbox in my archive database (its separate than my main mailbox database). can i reconnect this mailbox to someone else that already has an archive mailbox? or maybe just view it within outlook? thank you.

can i reconnect this mailbox to someone else that already has an archive mailbox? Hi pvmegaberts, "The primary mailbox and the personal archive share the same legacy distinguished name (DN), so you must connect the personal archive to the same user mailbox that it was previously connected to. You can't connect the personal archive to a different user mailbox." Understanding Disconnected Mailboxes http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb232039.aspx I would suggest you create a dedicated archive mailbox(normal mailbox, not Personal Archive one) to preserve the items from leaver's mailbox instead. You can run Search-Mailbox to copy the items to the archive mailbox easily: Search-Mailbox http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd298173.aspx Please remember to mark the replies as answers if they help and unmark them if they provide no help.
