Yes, you should use ExMerge to export mailboxes to .pst files. The naming convention is also to be changed.The purpose of my query was to find out now, suppose if we recreate a new 2008 AD forest root domain & install Ex2007 with all the newly desired DNS name for AD.Would it be possible to now import the .pst we created in the earlier scenerio into theex2007 database?

Can these .pst be later imported into an Ex2007 database & associated with an Ex2007 user mailbox? all the activity needs to be done at the Ex2007 server?

We are hosting a large international customer and migrating the users into a new pristine forest and Exchange organization from several forests and domains. At first we tried the .pst solution, but it turned out to be too error-prone. We changed to a move-mailbox scenario between forests and linked mailboxes, which for a lot of users already are converted to normal user mailboxes. At first we moved everything, now we do a combination of .pst and move-mailbox. My advice would be: You should strongly consider using move-mailbox (allow for a high number for corrupted items).
