connecting galaxy s to exchange 2003
Hi guys, I have a SBS 2003 at the office which works fine on MS Exchange Active sync. I am trying to do the same setup for a customer, also SBS 2003/Exchange 2003, I use the same phone to test and it wont work?? Same router, with port 143 open, I can telnet to 143 and even setup email IMAP connecting no problem. I have checked every setting and all the same, going around in circles....just keep getting..."Setup could not finish. Cannot connect to server" Exchange with a VPN works extrenally, and OWA also works, so user name /password combos all correct. I would like to swap to 993 SSL but need to get a more simplifed version connecting first. They both have SP2 exch. Is there something I am missing? Is it something to do with autodiscovery not working? Working in the Mushron Dept. Where they keep you in the dark and feed you on.....

Hello Sense, Autodiscover doesnt support on the Exchange 2003. When you configure Outlook (use IMAP4) to connect Exchange Server, will it work or not? If it can work, this may not Exchange issue, I suggest you go to check the settings on galaxy and the network connection between your galaxy and Exchange 2003. Yes, Outlook works fine with IMAP connection or VPN and exchange connection. Telnet also shows the 143 port is open and exchange connection over IMAP is ok.Working in the Mushron Dept. Where they keep you in the dark and feed you on.....

Hi Sense, Thanks for your reply. Now we know that the Exchange is working well, I suggest you follow these steps to narrow down the issue: Use another mobile device (in the same network environment), go to configure IMAP, then check whether it can work or not? If it can work, please go to check the settings on your galaxy, or ask galaxy support to help on your issue. If it also cannot work, change another network environment to have a try. Thanks for your time and replies on this Evan. If I use outlook, IMAP works fine, if I use my iphone, or either of the 2 Galaxies they wont connect on IMAP on exchange (I know the iphone wont connect to exchange 2003 anyway). All 3 will connect to the other SBS 2003 in my office so it must be the server. What other settings can I check? What would allow a connection through outlook on 143 but not a phone?Working in the Mushron Dept. Where they keep you in the dark and feed you on.....

**The Iphone took ages, but DID connect onto the Server via IMAP - it failed last time as the signal kept dropping (but thats a well documented iphone issue!) ** Update - got the IMAP now working on the galaxy too - It wouldnt complete with the MailServer smtp details but works with the Network providers.

Hi Sense, Do you have any other device? Did you use the same account to test for the IMAP (on Iphone and galaxy)? Since your Iphone keep dropping, I suggest you use other device to check whether you can connect your Exchange Server via IMAP or not. If other device can connect your Exchange With IMAP, this may not issue on your Exchange Server. Hi, Thanks for the replies. I have tried 2 or 3 different accounts but still no joy. I cant use iphones as they wont connect to exchange 2003 as there is no activesync, but the 2 galaxies should connect to exchange over imap but wont. They will connect for email only over imap, just not to full exchange which I need so the calendar and contacts also sync.Working in the Mushron Dept. Hi - sorry was away on holiday :-) HTC Flyer does the same, will connect for email only on IMAP but will not connect to exchange but I assume as the software on the Flyer is asking for Exchange ActiveSync (you cant select just exchange like on the older android firmwares) as it also wont connect to my offices SBS 2003 either whereas the Galaxy will So as it stands I can : Connect to my office (SBS 2003) with the Galaxy S on Exchange Connect to my office with 2 Galaxies (different firmware), an iphone and a HTC Flyer all on IMAP4 protocol ***** Connect to the NEW SERVER with 2 Galaxies (different firmware) and a HTC Flyer on IMAP4 protocol No connection on Exchange (only through VPN with outlook) I dont have any more mobile devices to try that are not trying to force Exchange ActiveSync :p Working in the Mushron Dept. Now your problem is: Outlook can connect Exchange Server (via IMAP4) Mobile devices cannot connect your SBS 2003 (via IMAP4) Mobile devices can connect to other Mail Servers (via IMAP4) Mobile devices can connect your SBS 2003 (via Exchange ActiveSync) If your Outlook can use IMAP4 to connect Exchange Server, this can confrim that IMAP4 is configured well on your SBS 2003. For the problem, your Mobile devices cannot connect via IMAP4, I suggest you check the configuration on your devices (like port settings). no sorry, you have misunderstood. Outlook can connect Exchange Server (via IMAP4) Mobile devices CAN connect your SBS 2003 (via IMAP4) Mobile devices can connect to other Mail Servers (via IMAP4) Mobile devices CANNOT connect your SBS 2003 (via Exchange "ActiveSync") or Exchange Connection Mobile devices CAN connect to other SBS 2003 with Exchange Connection"ActiveSync" Everything (POP3, webmail, VPN/Exchange, Outlook, IMAP mail) works EXCEPT connecting a mobile device to the new server for full exchange (mail, contacts and calendar sync). Thanks you for your time on this, I am thinking about reinstalling Exchange to see if that fixes the error as I didnt install it originally Working in the Mushron Dept. I understand your problem (IMAP4 is working, but ActiveSync not). If so, you can use this tool to test ActiveSync on your SBS 2003 (you need manually input the information, not use autodiscover, because Exchange 2003 not support autodiscover) Exchange Remote Connectivity Analyzer https://www.testexchangeconnectivity.com/ Thanks, Evan Liu TechNet Subscriber Supportin forum If you have any feedback on our support, please contacttngfb@microsoft.comEvan Liu TechNet Community Support

Thanks for your time on this, you must be tired of this by now :-) It failed the online test, but so did my server (and another) that I know are working fine :p so I dont think that site workls very well, which I also read on a forum that it seems to vbe very hit and miss. Incidentally, I was on another company yesterday, also SBS2003 and HTC Wildfires that use Activesync, and they connected full exchange mode (not just IMAP email) first time no problem, so I know its NOT android software or SBS 2003 compatibility, but must be an issue with the actual 2003 SBS setup. I think its was forced SSL when originally setup and that has affected the non-ssl, or there are some settings incorrect. I may try setting up with SSL on 993 before I remove :-/ Ta, JaseWorking in the Mushron Dept. Where they keep you in the dark and feed you on.....

If you have enabled Forms-based authentication, when you go to configure to require SSL, please have a look for this document: Exchange ActiveSync and Outlook Mobile Access errors occur when SSL or forms-based authentication is required for Exchange Server 2003 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/817379 Thanks, Evan Liu TechNet Subscriber Supportin forum If you have any feedback on our support, please contacttngfb@microsoft.comEvan Liu TechNet Community Support
