company split up so need to remove Exchange servers that are not available and DC's
Hi, Windows 2003 and exchange 2003 (SP2) OKay our company is splitting so the network link is being cut between the 2 networks (VPN) the other siterecieves email for a different domain. I am happy re the dc's side of things but i am a bit sketchy with regards to removing teh exhange server and users... My PLan is : Switch off link Using NTDSUTIL seize FSMO roles, (only need to grab PDC emulator) Using NTDSUTIL remove the Domain controllers from the other site http://www.petri.co.il/delete_failed_dcs_from_ad.htm Delete the remote Sites from AD Sites and Services Remove the routing groups, remove the server from exchange and delete the mailboxes (will this error???) for the users which belonged to the now disconnected network. Test mail flow to remote site as it was going internally How does that sound have a i missed anything? Thanks in advance

Hi, That should work. You are not going to delete the user accounts? The MX recordsare pointing to the correctservers? Leif

Hi, Thanks Yes I will be deleting the user accounts and the MX records are all okay. Any ideas at which stage the email will start to be routed via the internet instead of routing groups? Will it happen when i delete the routing groups or not until i delete the users? Ta Lemon

Hi, As long as the users are there and your server believes that it knows the domain name it won't deliver over the internet. You could create a smtp connector and have the mails for that domain routed over that. Leif
