cannot uninstall Exchange 2007 - os not supported
Hi, I have exchange 2007 on a Windows Server 2008 VM and I am trying to uninstall exchange as its no longer needed via add/remove programs and I can't because it comes back and says that the OS is not supported. Any ideas, I installed it on 2008 with no problems.....

Strange. Do you have dynamic memory enabled; try turning that off. Sounds strange, but please try anyway. In the meantime, could you post the bottom “section” of this log: c:\exchangesetuplogs\exchangesetup.log Mike Crowley | MVP My Blog -- Planet Technologies

Are you using the RTM exch? Try to uninstall using setup.com /mode:uninstall - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb123893(EXCHG.80).aspx Sukh

Hi Tuck918, Since you cannot use Add/Remove Programs and setup.com to remove Exchange Server, you can follow these steps to have a try: 1.On the install CD, go to the root right click on ExchangeServer.MSI and right click to choose Uninstall 2.Stop and disable the Exchange 2007 Services 3.Use Registry Editor to remove Exchange registry keys 4.Start->Run->regedit 5. Locate the following registry key: a. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Exchange b. Right-click Exchange, and then click Delete. Click Yes in the Confirm Key Delete dialog box c. Repeat steps b and c for each of the keys containing keyword Exchange or MSEXchange under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services 6. Remove and reinstall the Internet Information Services (IIS) component. 7. Follow this thread to remove the Exchange 2007 server from Active Directory: How to remove Exchange 2007 from AD manually http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exrca/thread/b365aa9b-350f-481a-9222-9e5595946da8 Thanks, Evan Liu TechNet Subscriber Support in forum If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tngfb@microsoft.com

Hi Tuck918, This should work. 1. Copy the Exchange 2007 SP3 files to the local drive 2. Open CMD as an Administator, Navigate to the SP3 directory 3. Run setup.com setup.com /mode:uninstall :MartinaPlease remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.

Thank you, I run the command with SP3 as instructed and received this error: "Exchange Server Setup encountered an error." Should I try installing SP3, then try and uninstall exchange?

Oops, okay, ran as administrator and got this: "F:\SP3>setup.com /mode:uninstall Welcome to Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Unattended Setup Preparing Exchange Setup The following server roles will be removed Mailbox Role Client Access Role Hub Transport Role Management Tools Setup previously failed while performing the action "BuildToBuildUpgrade". You cannot resume setup by performing the action "Uninstall". Exchange Server setup encountered an error."

Evan has some good advice, however if you want to keep troubleshooting, see this thread: BuildToBuildUpgrade error installing Exchange 2007 SP1 BTW, did you check dynamic memory in hyperv/vmware? Mike Crowley | MVP My Blog -- Planet Technologies

I deleted the watermark but it didn't help, I also deleted the Action. I noticed that the ConfiguredVersion and the UnpackedVersion are not the same.....

I think the setup checks the value for versionNumber stored in Active Directoy, when an install/uninstall is run. The problem you seems to have is that the version of Exchange you have installed is 8.1 (Exchange 2007 SP1) and the only EX07-Version that are supported in Windows Server 2008 R2 is Exchange 2007 with SP3. My suggestion is that you change the value for versionNumber on the ServerObject at: CN=myexchangeserver3,CN=Servers,CN=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT),CN=Administrative Groups,CN=domain,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=domain,DC=com' I don´t know the the value is supposed to be thou (I don´t have an EX07 SP3 to look at right now. In Exchange 2010 it is 1937866970 but that doesnt help you, but I guess a lot of other people here do :MartinaPlease remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.

I just noticed - you're running Windows 2008 *R2* Standard. You didn't state this initially. Can you confirm you are runnin at the Service Pack 3 level? Mike Crowley | MVP My Blog -- Planet Technologies

7. Follow this thread to remove the Exchange 2007 server from Active Directory: How to remove Exchange 2007 from AD manually http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exrca/thread/b365aa9b-350f-481a-9222-9e5595946da8 Thanks, Evan Liu TechNet Subscriber Support in forum If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tngfb@microsoft.com Ok, I had to resort to this but it worked! Thank you!!
