cannot start microsoft outlook. cannot open the outlook window. the set of folders cannot be opened. you must connect to microsoft exchange with the current profile before you can sync your folders with your outlook data file.

Is this a local Exchange server on the same subnet as your PC ?

Has outlook ever been setup before on this PC ?

does your %userprofile%\appdata\microsoft\outlook  folder have any OST files in it ?

All I want to do is sync Outlook 2013 to my Outlook Web App. I created my profile in Outlook and completed all the steps and Outlook said it had all the information it needed and I was finished. But when I launched Outlook it tried to connect to my email and load my profile but it wouldn't connect and I got the following message.

"cannot start microsoft outlook. cannot open the outlook window. the set of folders cannot be opened. you must connect to microsoft exchange with the current profile before you can sync your folders with your outlook data file (.ost). "

How can I connect microsoft exchange with my current profile if I can't launch Outlook?

I believe so however I didn't set up the OWA account. I can connect to OWA through a browser to check my email but I cannot connect to it by using Outlook. The Exchange server isn't on my local network. I went through Outlook 2013 to setup an account. Here are the steps I did..........

  1. Checked Manual Setup or additional server types
  2. Checked Microsoft Exchange Server
  3. I entered the Server and User Name
  4. I click on more settings
  5. In the Connection Tab I checked Connect to Microsoft Exchange using HTTP
  6. Clicked on Proxy Settings, then typed in the URL of my host name
  7. It appeared everything was set and I should be able to connect.

After doing this with no success, I deleted my profile in Outlook and started over with setting it up again. This time it appears to have worked. Not sure why it didn't the first time. I'll post again if I continue to have any problems.

Thanks
