can you keep same computer name when upgrading exchange 2007 to 2013?

Hello,

I work for a school district and need to upgrade our exchange from 2007 to 2013.  We bought a new server that has server 2012 on it and is ready to be fired up.  My question is, can we do this upgrade and keep the same server name?  One reason for doing so is that I have configured email accounts on our employees private phones and don't want to have to reconfigure them all again with the new server name.  Please let me know if this is possible.  Thanks a bunch.

Apart from the given resources, you can walk through this another informative guide that covers all the required aspects for successful migration from Exchange 2007 to 2013 : http://twarog.net/guides/exchange-2013/exchange-2007-to-2013-upgrade-migration-guide/32211

Moreover, while need to migrate users mailboxes, this available automated solution (http://www.exchangemailboxmigration.com/ ) could also be a nice alternative approach that provides a hassle-free environment to get this job done without downtime.

Hi Brian,

Thank you for your question.

can we do this upgrade and keep the same server name?

A: I am sorry that you didnt keep the same server name, because when we upgrade Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013, there is a coexisted time. We didnt decommission Exchange 2007 before we move all services to Exchange 2013(include mailbox). So Window server 2012 didnt join domain before we deploy Exchange 2013. If that, we could do nothing in the following.

So I suggest you reconfigure phone to point to new Exchange 2013 server name.

If there are any questions regarding this issue, please be free to let me know.

Best Regard,

Jim
