Here how it works.
Hub Transport servers are High Availability only there are two servers in the environment.
So if one server is down another one can take care of mailflow.
You just need to check the source server on Send Connectors and Receive Connector. Gulab | MCTS-MCITP Messaging: 2010 | MCTS-MCITP Messaging: 2007 | MCC 2011 | Skype: Gulab.Mallah

so I would have to add the old mail server to the hub transport of the current mail server?
What about the auto-response message?A

is there a way for all incoming mail coming from the mail server receive a auto-response message saying that this is the old mail server.
I am trying to divert all emails to the new mail server before we shut the old mail server downA

You can create Transport Rule for that and that should work, I am not sure about it!

what would be the best way to divert mail from the old mail server before shutting it down? I asked if we can forward the old mailserver to the new one? Is there any other types of forwarding process so that we dont lose people trying to communicate
to the old mail server?A

You don't have to do anything? Once one server is Gone second will take care of diverting or Delivering emails to users.
As i explained in my previous post.
Just make sure that there is no mails in the queue when you uninstalling it. Gulab | MCTS-MCITP Messaging: 2010 | MCTS-MCITP Messaging: 2007 | MCC 2011 | Skype: Gulab.Mallah

Hi El_admin,
You seems have open a ticket already like below:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchangesvrdeploy/thread/a249e2e9-89b5-4b54-b0ef-b58613247089/
Could you please descrilbe more detailed about your issue, and the scenario, and the purpose you want to achieve?
And I also want to verify some information from you:
1. Are all the servers in the same ORG, if so, we just remove the server, no need to do other thing.
2. If they are in different ORG, and using different smtp address space, we could forward the email from the old server to the new mailbox on the exchange 2007 server;
3. If you want to let the external users who send email to your old mailbox server, you could set a autoresponse message on the older server, and let them know the new smtp address.
Regards!
