Guys I'm having some problems configuring my test Exchange 2007 server in my home lab. I'm on a dynamic ip my provider is Charter they do not allow relaying to there servers so I'm using dyndns mail hop feature. I've gone into Exchange 2007 and configured a custom send connector using tls however I can't get any external emails to go out. Here's a little info on my test network my internal domain name and external domain name are different so I know I will have to configure a recipient policy for exchange in order to send emails using my real public domain name. Also I will have to configure my dynamic dns and mx records I have not done any of this up to this point. I figured I should have no problem just sending a test email via a smarthost however it is not working so any help would be much appreciated. Yes it looks strange it's not a valid email address I stated in the above post that testlab.com was my internal domain I have not setup a recipient policy reflecting my real public domain name which I will use as my valid email address. Also I have not configured the a record or mx record for my public domain I figured I should be able to test out bound email with out setting all of that up.

Hi, Would you please let me know whether the IP Address 204.13.248.71 is your smarthost server? Is it an Exchange Server or other mail server? In addition, I agree with Leif that the sender address looks strange. I suggest you configure email address policy to have the sender have a valid primary email address firstly to check whether the issue persists. From your SMTP log, seems the mail server 204.13.248.71 does not receive the mail from address 503 sender not yet given. Mike

The problem was my dns setup I finally found some info on various smtp errors. For example, I was getting error 451 which according to what I found states that there is a dns problem. It seems that Charter my isp and Dyndns do a sender verification when sending emails since I did not have my dns setup my emails would fail. So I went in configured my A record and MX record after that all mail was able to go out. So you guys pointed me down the right path when you said it was an address problem
