calendar item's reminder not synced via Exchange ActiveSync if set to "None"

Hi,

I use Outlook 2013 in order to sync it with my Outlook.com calendar using Exchange ActiveSync.

The problem that I am encountering is that if I set a calendar item's reminder to "None", it is not correctly synced to Outlook.com (instead, the old reminder value is kept).
But: When I set the item's reminder to any other value, it is synced correctly - as long as it is not set to "None".

I am pretty sure that this is a bug in Outlook 2013 (possibly the Exchange ActiveSync implementation), as setting a calendar item's reminder to "None" with my mobile works just fine (correctly synced to Outlook.com).

I would really appreciate if the issue was fixed by an update. It is a really big showstopper to me, as my mobile keeps reminding me about every calendar item created with Outlook 2013 (30 daily). I bought Outlook just for this use case, and it is extremely frustrating to see that it does not work as I expect it to.

If someone has an idea for a workaround or knows where to report this issue, it would be really nice if he or she would let me know.

Thanks, Martin

Hi Martin,

Thanks for the submission, I've also noticed this behavior, and I have passed this information to the product team.

Hi Max, thanks for your reply. How long do you think it will take until an update is published fixing the issue?

I have this exact same issue, and it is a serious annoyance. There is no way to create an event in Outlook without a notification; you must add or edit the notification in the Outlook.com web view.

Are there any updates planned, or better workarounds for this issue?

If you add a category or edit the contact in some other manner, do they sync?

Just to clarify, this report is about issues with calendar and EAS (and not contact sync).

If I change the calendar's items in some other manner ("show as", time, subject, even categorize), it is synced correctly.

Your help in solving the issue is very much appreciated.

Yeah, I knew that it was about calendar. My fingers sometimes type-ahead of my brain. :)

I think the reminder field, for whatever reason, does not kick off a "change event" when it is changed - outlook doesn't "see" that the online and offline appt don't match so it doesn't sync them. Changing other fields causes outlook to check the two versions and sync. I prefer to use categories in this case because they are easy to assign.

Thanks for your tip. It would be great if you could make sure that this bug gets fixed in Outlook 2013, though, as in my use case, using categories does not solve the issue :-(

They are working on fixing it - but i have no idea when it will be fixed.

In my case everything syncs correctly, except setting reminder to 'None'. Setting to any other reminder time length does sync correctly.

Changing other settings including categories, free/busy status, name, etc. all sync properly, but this action does not force the 'None' reminder to sync properly.

Very much looking forward to the fix.

I'm looking forward to a fix, too, as are a great many others. This bug has been reported on other forums without any response from Microsoft, and it's clearly causing a lot of frustration. It's hard to understand why it's taking so long to address.

It still has not been fixed with update KB2817468 (even though there have been some other EAS-related fixes in it)...

This bug is a major inconvinience for me and others. It is really frustrating to see that Microsoft does not really care.
