best method of managing OAB
Hi Guys, location A - Exchange 2007 (Mailbox, CAS, Hub)(Default Offline Address Book) location B - Exchange 2007 (Mailbox, CAS, Hub) In my exchange org, location A was the initial location to setup exchange 2007, therefore the default offline address book is created at exchange server on location A. In additional, the exchange 2007 has created Public folder for outlook 2003 client. All outlook users at location A were working fine with no issue of downloading OAB. Until when I start implement second Exchange 2007 server at remote location which is location B as mentioned above, location B exchange server has the same configuration as location A, the only thing that I didnt include which is OAB in location B. There are outlook 2003 client too, therefore public folder is created in exchange server at location B too. Here is where the question come in.. I noticed that outlook 2003 client at location B is sending OAB query to public folder at location A. In theory, it should not be queryingto location A as its location B has public folder created and replica from public folder at location A. In such scenario, what will be the best method of managing OAB in both exchange server at different location? please feel free to comment.. appreciate the input... Many Thanks.

Hi, It is abnormal that the Outlook 2003 client downloads OAB through the Exchange Server in the remote site instead of local site. At this time, please let me know how you know the Outlook 2003 in location B attempts to download OAB by connecting to Exchange Server in Location A. In addition, please check following configuration: 1. Run following command: Get-MailboxDatabase |fl identity, publicfolderdatabase Please ensure the mailbox stores in Location B are associated with the Public Folder Store in Location B 2. Use PFDavAdmin tool to connect to the Exchange Server in LocationB and ensure Everyone group has Reviewer permission to OAB folders 3. Run Public Folder Management Console and connect to Exchange Server in LocationB, please ensure that we are able to locate the OAB folders. Then, please right click the OAB folders and click Properties, please ensurethefolders have items listedinstead of Not available on this server. Mike

Hi Mike, Thanks for your suggestion, I have managed to resolved the issued before your replied, it is good to know that there are other way of troubleshoot if the similar error has happen in future.. My problem was the OAB did not replica over public folder, also the mailbox store association with public folder store wrongly pointed. After recreate new OAB and replication configured in public folder with correct association with mailbox store, eventually the problem has been resolved. Maybe you can help to explain that how to manage more than a OAB created? for example, I have two OAB created, either of this OAB will be default set.. My question is what does default OAB mean? and in what situation that we will need more than one OAB created? can you briefly tell me the usage or advantage of create more than one OAB? Many thanks..

Hi, If you have a hosted environment for example two companys mailboxes are hosted on one Exchange Organization and you would like to have the two companys employees not able to see each others Address List, you need to create two OAB for the two companies. By default, the Outlook download OAB files associated with the mailbox store. You can run following command to check which Offline Address book associated with the Mailbox Store. Get-Mailboxdatabase |fl identity, offlineaddressbook The following whitepaper describe the configuration more detailed?
