backup exec 12.5: Failed to backup exchange 2003 information store
Tried to run a backup for the exchange 2003 server, got error message in backup exec log: V-79-57344-65146 - An error occurred while accessing Microsoft Exchange Server. Check the application event log on the Exchange Server for more details. WARNING: "\\server001\Microsoft Information Store\First Storage Group\Mailbox Store (server001)" is a corrupt file. This file cannot verify. Have contacted symantec, but they pointed out the problem is due to exchange. Event log file: Information Store (5088) First Storage Group: The database page read from the file "E:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\MDBDATA\priv1.edb" at offset 51485818880 (0x0000000bfccb4000) (database page 12569779 (0xBFCCB3)) for 4096 (0x00001000) bytes failed verification due to a page checksum mismatch. The expected checksum was 7662617103993589358 (0x6a5715a8655ece6e) and the actual checksum was 5480682898920157122 (0x4c0f4c0f04b1afc2). The read operation will fail with error -1018 (0xfffffc06). If this condition persists then please restore the database from a previous backup. This problem is likely due to faulty hardware. Please contact your hardware vendor for further assistance diagnosing the problem.

Backup Exec I find reports corruption very often when there is nothing of the kind. I would suggest that you attempt a backup using NTBACKUP, and see if that fails with the same reason. Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP. http://blog.sembee.co.uk , http://exbpa.com/

Hi, Agree with Simon. If the issue persists when using NTBACKUP, try to create a new mailbox database and then try to backup this new database. What's result? Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Hi kindly check any failures related to hardware check on array controller,hp homepage or dell server administartion whtever the hardware deployed on your server if there is no problem related to hardware, this problem is related to the database checksum error. This can be solved by fixing the errors in the database by running isinteg cmd against priv1.edb database. Run the isinteg cmd until zero errors and zero warnings.Once done u must to run the defrag for that database. As per the MS recommendation if u run the isinteg u must to run the defrag for that database. once all the activities cumplete try to intiate the backup & let me know the results. I saw one of the error message in HP report "S.M.A.R.T. predictive failure errors have been detected...." http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7300081/hp_report.zip But since we are running raid 5, I don't think it's causing the problem.. I think it's more likely the database itself... what do you guys think?

U r getting the dreaded -1018 error. You r lucky that ur database is still mounted. and it can fail anytime and go in dirty shutdown state. There can be three possibilities/resolution and you can follow any of them 1. You hard drive has serious issues. Run hardware diagnostics give by your vendor. and fix it 2. Your exchange database has high amount of corruption. You can move mailboxes to a new mailbox store, but as you said you cannot create another store because its std edition. So u can run isinteg on the exchange database and try to fix the logical errors. 3. Mount the production mailbox store with a blank database. add the existing database in RSG and do a merge. Please note that options 2 and 3 are viable only if you have checked that there are no issues with the disk itself.------Exchange, OCS------

If I run system management homepage it will only show "Bay3 is predicted to fail soon". Same result as if I run the Array configuration utility and report. But, If I run the HP insight Dianostics online edition for windows, it will show 3 hard disk failure as in screenchot..... So does that mean all my hard disk failed? but it's impossible, as I have 5 hard disk in raid 5, if more than 1 fail, system is down right? I just replaced hard disk in bay 3 as it was flashing orange, but after a while, it start flashing orange again..... so strange. and as you can see in the screenshot, it says for accumulated power on time for this hard dive: 21 months... but I just replaced it... why it's still 21 months? So any thoughts? screenshot: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7300081/screenshot.zip
