autodiscover URL have same name as OWA

Exchange 2013 CU4

if i remember correctly, before when we have Exchange 2010, the other vendor implemented a "autodiscover.acme.com" URL aside from the OWA URL which is "mail.acme.com".

now that we have upgraded to Exchange 2013, the new vendor implemented just a single URL for both autodiscover and OWA, thus we have only "mail.acme.com" for everything.

in my Exchange 2010 SSL cert, i have registered "autodiscover.acme.com" and "mail.acme.com". now comes two questions:

1. is the way that the Exchange 2013 vendor implemented a single URL for both autodiscover and OWA recommended or efficient? so far, i can't tell of any performance or lookup difference

2. since i'm renewing our SSL cert for Exchange, should i include the "autodiscover.acme.com" in the event that item 1 above is not recommended?

appreciate any help.

regards,

Rino

In Exchange2010 and Exchange2013 you need two names as best practice.
i.e. mail.acme.com and autodiscover.acme.com

FYI autodiscover.emaildomain.com is used by MS outlook to reach exchange server. This is hard coded is outlook.

I suggest you add both mail.acme.com and autodiscover.acme.com in your certificate.

i checked Outlook auto configuration and the "Availability Server URL" only shows "mail.acme.com/EWS/Exchange.asmx". i don't see "autodiscover" anywhere.

in addition, i do have "autodiscover.acme.com" in my DNS pointing to the same IP address as "mail.acme.com" (it used to point to my Exchange 2010 before), could it be that's why it is working?

You will not see autodiscover URL in "Test Email Autoconfig..." results.
This command will show you that

Get-clientAccessServer | fl Name,AutoDiscoverServiceInternalUri
