auto-reply with server down
i have a situation where i'll need to auto-reply to incoming mail for a subset of accounts on our domain. I normally do this through ooa or a auto-reply rule in outlook. In this case the destination server that the AD mail accounts sit on is going to be decommissioned. Will the mail still auto-reply from the AD account if the mail server for those accounts is decommisioned.(there are 10 exchange 2k3 servers in the domain. There is a master bridghead that routes incoming mail to the member servers. The server where the accounts reside and that is being decommisioned is a member server). Thanks

Outlook Rules are part of the mailbox configuration. As long as you move the user's mailbox to another server and not delete it then yes you will still have the rules available. "In this case the destination server that the AD mail accounts sit on is going to be decommissioned. Will the mail still auto-reply from the AD account if the mail server for those accounts is decommisioned" If the mail server that the account resides on will be decommissioned, that would mean you either have to move or delete the mailboxes. If you move then, then you have no issues but if they are deleted then the destination email address no longer exists in the organization and any email to that address will generate a bounce back message anyways (unless I am missing something!).Thank you, Ibrahim Benna MCSA+Messaging, MCSE+Messaging, MCT, MVP "Did you backup your Information Store Today?!"
