attachment limits exchange 2007
Environment - windows 2008 sp2 running exchange 2007 sp3. Users try to attach a file larger than 10 megs - get message "the attachment size exceeds the allowable limit". Send/receiver connectors set at 30 megs. Transport set
to unlimited. Users don't have restrictions. Am I looking for the wrong item? These are attachments - is this a setting I need to set elsewhere? Can't seem to find an answer. Any help would be appreciated.

Outlook 2007 SP2. Start new email, click on the attach file icon in the above menu bar. message - the attachment size exceeds the allowable limit. Anything under 10 megs works - figure this is the default. Would
like to increase if I could find out where.

Have read this article - not much help in finding my problem.
It explains where all the possible settings are for message size. 10MB is the default.
You can change the org level, the connector level, the user level etc...
Maybe this one is clearer:

1. Did you recetly make them changes to the transport server (message limits), or have they been around for some time, if recently, then wait for a while, Exchange has a cache, for certain things.
2. Check the following keys on a problem user and see if there is MaximumAttachmentSize? If exists what the size is set to. If exists, try setting to 0 and test.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Preferences
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Preferences

The org level is unlimited as seen above. My connectors are at 30megs and the users, groups, contacts - etc are unlimited. Much better article by the way - thankyou.

These settings have been around for some time - just recently someone wanted to send a large attachment and could not. Test other users including myself and can't send large attachments. There is no
MaximumAttachmentSize found in the registry.
Thanks

Correct. That registry entry is only used for IMAP/POP mode. Outlook clients in Exchange Mapi mode use the Exchange settings.
By the way, what happens if you try to send the same attachment with OWA?

I get this message. The files C5150n.pdf were not attached because they exceed the maximum size limit of 5 megabytes (MB) for attachments.

Thats interesting, because the default in OWA in 30 MB:

Unchecked - use cached exchange mode - can attach 25 meg attachment.
Checked - use cached exchange mode - can NOT attach 25 meg attachement.
What's up with that? How do I resolve this issue? Thanks

Try this. Enable Cache Mode, Close Outlook, , delete the associated cache file *.ost and re-open Outlook to recreate the cache. Or create a new Outlook cached profile and give it a new Profile name and test.

That worked!!! So this is the fix, but going to stink doing it for 180 some users - give or take. Guess I'll only fix those who complain.
Thanks for everyones help.
